
Men's Golf Closes Spring Season Seventh at BIG EAST Championships

OKATIE, S.C. -- The Creighton men's golf team tied for seventh at the BIG EAST Championship Tuesday afternoon. The Bluejays shot a 920 (306+309+305) and tied with St. John's (305+312+303) at the Callawassie Island Golf Club.
Sophomore Andrew Holloway led Creighton individually and tied for 16th with a 229 (76+77+76) on the par-72 course.
Marquette earned the team championship with a three-day 897 (304+297+296). The Golden Eagles were eight strokes out of first place entering the final round, and jumped past Xavier and DePaul to claim the crown. Marquette earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship with the conference championship.
DePaul (899), Xavier (906), Seton Hall (910), Georgetown (915) and Butler (919) finished ahead of Creighton and St. John's in the final team standings.
St. John's Dylan Crowley defeated Marquette's Patrick Sanchez on the third hole of a playoff to qualify for the NCAA Championship as an individual. Crowley (72+72+71) and Sanchez (73+73+69) each carded a 1-under par 215.
Lloyd Jefferson Go (Seton Hall), Obe Ayton (St. John's) and Freddy Thomas (DePaul) each finished four strokes behind the leaders to tie for third with a 219.
Senior Johnny Spellerberg carded a 231 (80+77+74) in his final event as a Bluejay. Spellerberg competed in 98 rounds during his career at Creighton and has claimed the third-best scoring average at 76.39 in the last dozen years.
Sophomore Kade Brown placed 27th with a 233 (74+84+75), freshman Jonah Buss totaled 234 (76+78+80) and tied for 28th and freshman Trey Petitt tied for 37th after a three-day 243 (86+77+80) to round out the individual scoring for the Bluejays.
The BIG EAST Championship event concluded the 2015 spring season for the men's golf team.
