Michelle Trulin manages only CU hit
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Softball team dropped its home opener on Wednesday afternoon, falling 6-0 to Kansas.
Kansas sophomore Andie Formby improved to 9-1 with the complete game one-hit shutout, stretching her scoreless inning streak to 33 innings. She needed just 67 pitches, striking out seven and did not walk a batter.
After Formby sat down the first nine Bluejays in order, Michelle Trulin had CU's lone hit with a grounder up the middle that deflected off shortstop Chaley Brickey's glove and into centerfield. CU's only other baserunner came in the bottom of the fifth, when Mileah McKelvy reached on an error, though pinch-runner Sam Crowley was later thrown out while trying to tag up on a foul ball after a diving catch from KU backstop Harli Ridling.
Kansas (16-9) got the only offense it would need in the top of the fourth, when Ridley hit her sixth homer of the season just over the outstretched glove of Trulin in left. The Jayhawks made it 3-0 when Brickey lofted a two-run homer with one away in the fifth inning.
The Jayhawks added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Creighton (15-10) is off this weekend and returns to action next Wednesday when it hosts Providence in a Noon doubleheader at the CU Sports Complex.
