Albrecht throws five scoreless while Lopez drives in two
Omaha, Neb. -- Jeff Albrecht threw five scoreless innings and Nicky Lopez was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI as Creighton Baseball blanked Stony Brook, 4-0, to win the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.
The win was Creighton's (15-4) ninth straight, and 15th in the past 16 games. Stony Brook dropped to 8-11 on the year with the setback. Creighton won the first game of the series, 5-4, before Saturday's game was cancelled due to weather to necessitate Sunday's twinbill.
Creighton got the only runs it would need in the bottom of the third inning, all with two outs. Daniel Woodrow doubled to left-center and scored on Ryan Fitzgerald's triple to right. Fitzgerald would score on a Lopez double to right, and Lopez came around to score on a blooper to center off the bat of Reagan Fowler.
The Bluejays added their final insurance run in the fifth inning. Woodrow walked, stole second, and later scored on a Lopez single.
Albrecht (2-0) tied a career-high with five strikeouts while throwing a season-high five innings. He allowed three hits and two walks, and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the third to preserve the shutout and lower his ERA to 1.56.
Ethan DeCaster threw 2.1 innings of one-hit middle relief before Sam Norman retired both men he faced. Nick Highberger closed out the victory with a hitless ninth.
