Bluejays throw consecutive shutouts for the first time since 2008
OMAHA, Neb. -- Keith Rogalla threw five shutout innings as Creighton Baseball completed a perfect 10-0 homestand with a 4-0 seven-inning victory over Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon. The victory secured a fifth straight weekend sweep for the Bluejays.
Creighton (16-4) has won 10 straight home games for the first time since 2008, and has now won 16 of its last 17 games overall. Creighton's 10-game win streak is the nation's third-longest active win streak and the program's longest since a 10-game winning streak in 2007. The win streak is the longest on a single homestand in more than 30 years, as well.
Daniel Woodrow sparked the offense for Creighton. He singled on the first pitch of the game, stole second and came around to score on a pair of wild pitches.
Just as it did in the first game on Sunday, a 4-0 nine-inning win, Creighton scored three times in the bottom of the third inning. Senior Ryan Fitzgerald tripled down the right-field line to start the frame. After Nicky Lopez was hit by a pitch, Lopez stole second and both men advanced an extra 90 feet on a throwing error by Seawolves' catcher Drew Bene. A double by Reagan Fowler plated Lopez to make it 3-0, and Fowler later scored on a wild pitch.
Rogalla (2-1) authored his second straight scoreless start, striking out five men in five innings of three-hit ball. He struck out Andruw Gazzola to end his outing, escaping a jam that saw Stony Brook put two men in scoring position.
John Oltman threw a scoreless sixth before David Gerber notched the final three outs as Creighton picked up consecutive shutouts for the first time since 2008.
Up next for Creighton is a Tuesday night game at in-state rival Nebraska (16-7). The Cornhuskers have won 13 of their last 14 games after a weekend sweep at Purdue to open Big Ten play.
