1991 CWS Team Honored as Baseball Bests Butler, 6-4 Win

The win gave Creighton its eighth victory in nine games, moving the Bluejays to 24-7 on the season and 4-1 in BIG EAST play. Butler, meanwhile, fell to 9-25 overall and 1-4 in conference action.
The Bluejays jumped out on the Bulldogs early with runs in the first and second frames. Junior Daniel Woodrow smacked a single to center to open the bottom of the first. He quickly moved to second on a passed ball, then beat a throw to third on a bunt by Nicky Lopez. Woodrow scored when Butler first baseman Jordan Lucio misfired on a throw to the plate.
Creighton's run in the second also was a product of the Bluejays' speed. Junior Kevin Connolly beat out a bunt single with two down, then took second on a poor throw. Freshman Michael Emodi followed with an RBI double into the gap in left-center.
After Butler got on the board with a run in the fourth, the Bluejays tacked on three more runs in the fifth. The top of the order supplied the force as Woodrow singled, Lopez was hit by a pitch and senior Ryan Fitzgerald reached on an error to fill the bags. Senior Reagan Fowler followed with a two-run single to right and senior Harrison Crawford lifted a sac fly to make it 6-1
Butler made the game close with three runs in the eight, but sophomore Ethan DeCaster slammed the door to protect the Bluejay edge.
Senior Nick Highberger tossed a flawless ninth for his first save of the season. Reliever Conner Miller earned the win (1-1), limiting Butler to three runs on four hits and a walk in three innings.
Woodrow closed the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Fitzgerald was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Creighton and Butler will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 12:00Â pm
