Crawford Goes Yard Twice to Lift Baseball to 4-0 Win over Jacksonville

Omaha, Neb. -- Behind a two-home run game from senior Harrison Crawford and a career-high 6.1 shutout innings from junior Jeff Albrecht, the Creighton Baseball team defeated Jacksonville 4-0 on Saturday, April 2.
The win lifted the Bluejay record to 17-6 on the season, while the Dolphins fell to 17-9.
Early on the game was a pitcher's duel as Albrecht and Jacksonville's Nathan Disch held hitters at bay through three frames. Crawford changed that in the bottom of the fourth. With two down in the inning Crawford turned the first pitch of the at-bat into a no doubter over the left field wall in seconds to give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead.
Creighton added a run in the bottom of the seventh, loaded the bases on three straight singles, allowing senior Ryan Fitzgerald to loft a sacrifice fly to boost the Bluejay lead to 2-0.
Crawford put the game away in the bottom of the eighth, connecting for his second home run of the year and of the game. With two men down in the inning, Creighton sent pinch hitter Bryce Only up to face left-hander Casey Kulina. Jacksonville countered by bringing on a righty, Jeff Tanner. Only responded with a first-pitch single to center and Crawford followed by sending a 3-1 offering into almost the same spot he had homered in the fourth, over the left field wall.
After allowing two Dolphin hitters to reach in the first inning on a walk and a single, Albrecht limited Jacksonville to one hit over the next 5.1 innings to match his longest outing to earn his third win (3-0) of the year. Albrecht also tossed 6.1 innings against Butler on April 26, 2014. The Omaha native gave way to sophomore Ethan DeCaster in the seventh as the Minnesotan retired eight of the nine Jacksonville hitters he faced to nab his first save.
Crawford finished the day, 3-for-4 with three RBI. With two long balls, Crawford became just the second player to yard twice in one game at the spacious TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, joining former Bluejay Mike Gerber who homered twice against Stephen F. Austin on May 13, 2014.
Creighton and Jacksonville play the rubber game of the series on Sunday, April 3 at 12:00 pm.
