OMAHA, Neb. -- Bryce Gibson's early goal helped give Crieghton an early lead and propel the Bluejays to a 2-0 victory over Missouri State in Wednesday night's exhibition match at Morrison Stadium.
Following a Missouri State foul during the seventh minute, Stefan Wutte fired a free kick towards the top of the box where Bryce Gibson headed the ball towards goal. Gibson's shot beat the Bears' goalkeeper to the top right corner of the net for Creighton's first goal of the exhibition season.
The Bluejays added to their lead late in the second half. During the 79th minute, Akeem Ward sent the ball towards the left side of the box to a streaking Ricky Lopez-Espin, who sent the ball into the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0.
Missouri State held a 11-2 shot advantage in the first half, but the Bluejays had 12 shots in the second half compared to the Bears' six.
Michael Kluver made four first-half saves for Creighton, and Connor Gavigan had three in the second 45.
Liam Priestley made only one save for Missouri State.
The Bluejays return to the pitch Saturday night for an exhibition match against Wisconsin. Kickoff on Saturday night at Morrison Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
