OMAHA, Neb. -- First-half goals from Myles Englis and Ricky Lopez-Espin helped the No. 14 Creighton men's soccer team defeat UMKC 3-0 on Tuesday night at Morrison Stadium.
Englis opened the scoring with his first goal of the season during the 34th minute. The senior received the ball in the middle of the box from fellow senior Ricardo Perez before beating the UMKC goalkeeper with a shot towards the left side of the goal.
The Bluejays added their second goal less than five minutes later during the 38th minute. After Julius Fohr created a turnover near midfield, Lopez-Espin controlled the loose ball about 30 yards away from the opposing goal, made a couple of moves around a Kangaroo defender and fired a shot from the top of the box that found the back of the net to give Creighton a 2-0 advantage.
The Bluejays continued to apply offensive pressure for the remainder of the opening 45 minutes and had 10 shots during the first half of Tuesday's contest.
Creighton continued to possess the ball in the second half and forced the Kangaroos to play defense for the majority of the match.
After a handful of good looks, Riggs Lennon extended the Bluejay lead with a free kick during the 67th minute. Lennon and three other Creighton players surrounded the ball about eight yards beyond the 18-yard box before Lennon launched a shot into the back of the net as UMKC continued to organize its defense.
Lennon led the Bluejays with eight shots, including four on goal. 10 different Creighton players ended the night with a shot and six had at least one shot on goal.
The Bluejays ended the match with a 29-5 advantage in shots, including a 19-2 edge in the second half.
UMKC's Filippo Errico made a total of nine saves.
Bluejay goalkeeper Alex Kapp recorded his third shutout of the season and made four saves.
Creighton continues the 2016 season with its first BIG EAST match of the season. The Bluejays host Seton Hall for Homecoming on Saturday at 7 p.m.
