Men's Soccer Scores Four Unanswered Goals For First BIG EAST Victory

OMAHA, Neb. -- After allowing an early score, the Creighton men's soccer team notched four unanswered goals to pick up a 4-1 victory over Seton Hall in the first BIG EAST match of the season on Saturday night at Morrison Stadium.
No. 14 Creighton improved to 4-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in BIG EAST action, while Seton Hall fell to 2-4-1 and 0-1-0 in conference play.
The Bluejays opened the conference slate in front of 5,386 fans for the 2016 Homecoming match -- the seventh-largest crowd in program history.
Both teams came out on the attack, as Creighton attempted its first shot in the second minute, and the Pirates tallied their first attempt during the third minute.
Seton Hall's Andres Arcila notched the first goal of the game with a free kick from 28 yards out during the 10th minute. Arcila sent the ball just inside the near post for his fifth goal of the season.
During the 26th minute, Myles Englis put Creighton on the scoreboard. Noah Franke dribble down the left side of the 18-yard box before sending a cross to Englis at the far post. Englis put his foot on the ball and delivered with his second goal of the season to tie the match.
Franke leads Creighton with a three assists this season.
Riggs Lennon added the Bluejays' second goal of the match with less than two minutes to play in the first half. Seton Hall was called for a hand ball inside the 18-yard box to set up a penalty kick opportunity for Creighton. Lennon fired the ball into the back right corner of the to give the Bluejays a 2-1 lead at the half.
During the 65th minute, Lennon extended the lead to two goals with his second penalty kick of the night. Englis beat a Seton Hall defender down the right side of the field and drew a foul inside the box for Creighton's second penalty kick chance.
The Pirates had an opportunity to cut the deficit to one with a penalty kick of their own. Jordan Kinoshi launched a shot at Alex Kapp who made a diving save. Francisco Alderete recovered the rebound, but Kapp made a second consecutive stop to keep the margin at two.
Creighton added its final goal during the 81st minute. Lucas Stauffer sent a ball to Ricky Lopez-Espin who fired a shot that the deflected the ball off a Seton Hall defender before finding the back of the net.
Kapp made six saves as Creighton picked up its third consecutive victory.
Six combined yellow cards were issued during Saturday's match.
The Bluejays are now a perfect 4-0-0 in BIG EAST regular-season openers.
Creighton returns to action on Wednesday night for a match against No. 9 Denver at Morrison Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
