Creighton vs. Wichita State Series
Shockers lead, 115-47-1
In the first meeting since Creighton left the Missouri Valley Conference last season, the Shockers posted a 7-3 win on May 10, 2016. Under Ed Servais, Creighton is 26-16 against Wichita State.
Bluejays' 10-Game Winning Streak the Longest in the NCAA
Riding a 10-game win streak, the Bluejays are officially the hottest team in the country. Creighton's current streak is one better than Norkfolk State's nine straight wins. Louisiana-Lafayette sits in third with eight consecutive victories, while St. John's is one of six team with seven straight wins.
Current Win Streak Tied for Fourth Longest Under Servais
The Bluejays' 10-game win streak may lead the nation, but it is just tied for the fourth longest win streak by a Creighton team under head coach Ed Servais. The Bluejays won 15 straight in 2006, 12 in a row in 2005 and 11 consecutive in 2007. In Creighton history the longest win streak is 18 games during the 1983 season under Dave Underwood.
Scouting Wichita State (18-21, 3-6 BIG EAST)
The Shockers opened the season with seven straight wins, then dropped six of their next seven. The roller coaster season has continued throughout the year as the Shockers have lost three straight and six of eight entering their battle with the Bluejays on Tuesday.
Offensively the Shockers come to TD Ameritrade Park Omaha hitting .257 as a unit, led by Greyson Jenista's .306 and Alec Bohm's .300 averages. That duo lead Wichita State with 45 hits and have a combined 53 RBI.
On the mound the Shockers have a team ERA of 4.86. Closer Ben Hecht has had a rough season for Wichita State, his 7.41 ERA in the second highest on the squad. However Hecht has six saves in 20 appearances.
Rogalla Claims Second BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week Honor, Collins Earns BIG EAST Honor Roll
Junior right hander Keith Rogalla collected his second BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honor this season on Monday, April 24, while freshman teammate Isaac Collins earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Rogalla pitched 8.0 innings in the series finale against Villanova allowing just one run on four hits. He gave up his only run in the second inning, finishing the next six with no runs crossing the plate. Rogalla finished with a 1.12 ERA and 10 strikeouts on a career high 124 pitches. The Bluejays winning run came in the ninth as Rogalla came out of the game with a no decision. Creighton has won its last 10 consecutive games.
Collins, meanwhile, guided the Bluejay offense to a 4-0 week with a .643 average (9-of-14). The No. 2 hitter scored seven runs, walked four times and swiped four stolen bases. He closed the week with a .722 on-base percentage and a .643 slugging percentage.
Robertson Rode to the Rescue with Game-Tying Home Run and Walk-Off Single
Freshman Will Robertson delivered on a school yard dream on Friday, April 21. With the Bluejays trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth, the Missouri native blasted a mammoth shot over the right field fence to tie the game. One inning later Robertson came to the plate with runners one the corners in a tie contest. Robertson delivered once more, beating out an infield single to deliver a 6-5 win.
Bluejays Simply Found Ways To Win Against Wildcats
The three victories over Villanova were far from easy. In each of the first two games the Bluejays had to battle back from a deficit, trailing 5-3 in the eighth inning Friday and 2-0 in the fifth on Saturday.
The final battle went to the final frame as Creighton earned its second walk-off win of the month. This time the hero was sophomore Clark Brinkman as he bounced a ball into the hole at short to plate the decisive run.
