Women's Soccer Defeats Hastings, 4-1, in Final Exhibition Contest

Omaha, Neb. -- Scoring two goals in each half, the Creighton women's soccer squad closed off its 2017 exhibition schedule with a 4-1 win over Hastings on Sunday, Aug. 13.
The Bluejays got on the board quickly as sophomore Hannah Miller collected a deflection, then blasted a scoring shot from 25 yards in the third minute (2:57).
Creighton extended its lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute as sophomore Callie Hawkins sent a corner ball that glanced off Hastings' goalkeeper Emma Toohey's hands directly to junior Emma Braasch. The Kansas native took advantage with a goal from 10 yards out.
The score remained 2-0 through halftime, but the Bluejays went back to work early in the second half as sophomore Taryn Jakubowski collected a loose ball for an goal. Jakubowski benefitted after freshman Keelie Fothergill's shot was stopped, but keeper Lexi Harris was unable to control the ball.
Miller pushed the score to 4-0 midway through the period, taking a ball from Hawkins just inside the box. Quickly she fired past Harris for her second goal of the match.
Hastings did not manage a shot until the 79th minute, but the Broncos first shot but them on the board. Courtney Doeschot blasted away from 35 yards to put Hastings on the board.
The Bluejays open the regular-season with four consecutive road matches, beginning on Friday, Aug. 17 at Iowa State. The match is set to begin at 7:30 pm.
