Men's Golf Finishes Third at Zach Johnson Invitational

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- Tucker Knaak and Nate Vontz both shot under par on Tuesday to lead Creighton to a third-place finish at the Zach Johnson Invitational.

Knaak opened with rounds of 74 and 77 before firing a three-under 68 to tie for seventh place. The 68 was the lowest round of the freshman's young career as a Bluejay.

Vontz shot 73 and 78 on Monday before the sophomore authored a 69 on Tuesday for his lowest round of his career as a Bluejay. Vontz tied for 10th place in the field.

Koy Potthoff shot 76s in both rounds on Monday, then shot a 72 on Tuesday to tie for 23rd place.

Freshman Ben Krapfl started strong with circuits of 75 and 72 before finishing with an 81.

Senior Brad Keyer tied for 50th place after rounds of 77, 81 and 78.

Rounding out the CU contingent, but competing as an individual, was Andrew McCormick. McCormick started with an 84 before back-to-back rounds of 86 to place 73rd.

Creighton's 287 in the third round was two strokes shy of its best round of the fall, and came after opening with loops of 298 and 303 as a team.

The meet featured 12 teams and 73 entrants, and was held on the Glen Oaks CC course in West Des Moines, Iowa. Bradley won the team title with an 879 total, defeating North Dakota State by seven shots for the crown. Medalist honors went to Loyola Chicago's Tyler Anderson. Anderson completed the tournament with 73, 69 and 72 for a 1-over total of 214. He won the meet by one shot.

The meet is named after former Drake golfer Zach Johnson, a 12-time victor on the PGA Tour and two-time Major winner.

The Bluejays return to action on Oct. 15 for a dual meet vs. Drake that will be held at Wakonda CC.
