Baseball Takes Series From Aggies with 9-6 Win on Saturday

The win moved the Bluejays to 3-2 on the season, while UC Davis fell to 2-4 overall.
Creighton got on the board in the second in an unconventional way, starting when junior Michael Emodi was hit by a pitch. The Bluejay catcher went to second on a ground out, then safely beat an attempt to throw him out at third on another ground ball. Finally Emodi scampered home on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Parker Upton.
The Aggies answered with a game-tying run in the second, but Creighton struck back quickly with three runs on four hits in third.
Allbery opened the frame by beating out an infield single to short. After moving to second on a sac bunt from junior Clark Brinkman, sophomore Isaac Collins walked to put runners at second and third. Junior Jack Strunc put the Bluejays back up for good with an RBI single, then Emodi plated Collins with an RBI double to left. Finally sophomore Will Robertson smoked an RBI single to left to make it 4-1.
The Bluejays added two more runs in the fourth as junior Jordan Hovey reached second on an error, then scored via an RBI single from Allbery. Moments later Allbery went to third on a double from Brinkman, then scored via a sac fly from Collins.
Creighton's final three runs came in the last two frames, scoring two in the eighth and one in the ninth.
Bluejay starter Mitch Ragan earned the win (1-1), limiting UC Davis to three runs on six hits and two walks in six innings. Closer Bobby Kametas nabbed his second save in as many days with a scoreless ninth.
UC Davis starter Chris Brown fell to 1-1, allowing six runs on six hits and a walk in 3.1 innings of work.
Creighton and UC Davis wrap up the three-game series on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3:00 pm (CT).
