A 6-1 victory against Sacred Heart gives Creighton three wins out of three in Florida
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Creighton women's tennis team continued to find success in Orlando as the Bluejays comfortably won against Sacred Heart, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon. Creighton has recorded three wins in Florida, all by the same 6-1 scoreline.
With the victory against Sacred Heart, the Bluejays moved to 8-4 on the year, including wins in five of their last six matches.
The doubles team of Erin Epperson and Claire Embree started the afternoon off for the Jays in winning fashion, as they recorded a 6-1 decision at the No. 2 spot. The duo of Ashley Ishimura and Michaela Henne joined with a 6-2 victory of their own to take the doubles point for Creighton before Darby Rosette and Kendra Lavallee earned a win at No. 3 to sweep in doubles play.
Ishimura set the tone for Creighton in singles play, earning back-to-back 6-1 decisions at the No. 1 spot. Epperson followed suit, as she put the Bluejays on the verge of taking the contest with her 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 spot. Rosette sealed the third straight win for Creighton following her 6-4, 6-0 decision at the No. 4. A Sacred Heart victory sandwiched in between a 7-5, 7-6 victory from Henne (No. 2) and a 7-6, 6-0 win from Embree (No. 5) made for the only blemish on the day.
"Up and down the lineup we competed better on the big points than our opponents," assistant coach Jean Lilly said. "We played well against a good team today."
Creighton takes on Niagara University on Wednesday in the Bluejays' second-to-last contest in their Orlando trip.
