Men's Tennis Concludes Road Trip With 4-0 Setback Against #13 Oklahoma
1/20/2019 1:34:00 PM | Men's Tennis
NORMAN, Okla. -- Facing nationally-ranked competition for the second consecutive day, the Creighton men's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 13 Oklahoma at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Oklahoma on Sunday.
The Bluejays moved their record to 0-2, while the Sooners improved to 3-0.
Oklahoma earned victories at the top two positions to secure the doubles point.
The Sooners wrapped up the overall dual win with victories at the four through six singles spots.
Creighton freshman Nick Campbell forced a tiebreaker in the opening set of the top singles match before falling 9-7 in the breaker and going unfinished in the second frame.
Stratton Brown also held tight in a 7-5 first-set loss at the No. 2 position and was tied at 1-1 in the second, but straight-sets victories by Oklahoma at the No. 4, 5 and 6 ended the match.
"We knew coming into this weekend that playing two top 25 teams was going to be a challenge," head coach Tom Lilly said. "Our guys competed well at different positions for each match and we had opportunities in the doubles. Hopefully we got a lot out of this weekend and are ready for the rest of the season."
Creighton returns to the courts and opens its home schedule on Friday against Doane at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
