Women's Soccer Closes Out Regular Season Against Villanova on Halloween

Omaha, Neb. -- Clinging to a chance to reach the BIG EAST Tournament, the Creighton women's soccer team faces Villanova in the final match of the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 31st at 7:00 pm in Morrison Stadium.

Entering the regular-season finale with Villanova, the Bluejays need a win to keep their post-season hopes alive. Creighton earned four much needed points posting a 1-0 win at Seton Hall and a 1-1 draw at St. John's last week.
Senior Jaylin Bosak and freshman Skylar Heinrich delivered the goals on the road trip, to give the Bluejays a shot at their first BIG EAST Conference Tournament.
Creighton's offense is led by Heinrich with 11 goals, while sophomore Ansley Atkinson has dished out six assists with a pair of goals this season.
Defensively, Creighton has continued to split time in the net between redshirt freshman Keelan Terrell (0-2-2) and sophomore Katie Sullivan (2-1-1) in conference play. Terrell collected four saves to help preserve a 1-1 draw with St. John's last Sunday.
Scouting Villanova (8-6-3, 4-3-1 BE)
With a 1-0 win over Providence, the Wildcats sealed a spot in the BIG EAST tournament, and look to end the Bluejays chances as they visit Omaha on Thursday.
Offensively the Wildcats are lead by sophomore Brice McInroy with eight goals, while
sophomore Chloe O'Neill has contributed four goals and six assists this season.
Defensively Villanova is led by Rebecca Gartner in the net. Gartner has posted a 5-5-2
record this season, collecting 52 saves and three shutouts, while allowing 20 goals. Â

The Bluejays and Wildcats have split the six meetings between the two teams. Creighton is 2-1-0 against Villanova at home and has won the last two battles by a 1-0 score.

Path to the BIG EAST Championship
Entering play on Thursday, the Bluejays sit in eighth place with nine points. To move into the BIG EAST Championship Creighton needs a win over Villanova to move to 12 points as well as a loss or tie from both Marquette and Providence. Both the Golden Eagles and the Friars enter the final match of the regular season with 10 points. Â
Villanova, meanwhile, has clinched a spot in the BIG EAST tournament with 13 points. The Wildcats, however, can earn a home match by clinching at least the fourth seed.
Heinrich Claims Third BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Honor
Creighton women's soccer's Skylar Heinrich earned her third BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor on Monday, Oct. 28th. Heinrich helped the Bluejays return home from an east coast swing to New Jersey and New York with a win and a draw, scoring one goal against St. John's.
Heinrich helped keep the Bluejays in postseason contention with the first goal against St. John's on Sunday. Creighton earned the draw to remain in the hunt, while also winning at Seton Hall on Thursday, in which Heinrich registered a shot in the 1-0 victory. Heinrich's goal in Queens was her 11th of the season, second-most in the BIG EAST this year and tops among rookies. She ranks fourth nationally among Division I freshmen goal scorers.
Atkinson Dishing Out Assists
With one match remaining, sophomore Ansley Atkinson continues to find Bluejays for scoring opportunities. The Minneapolis native has dished out six assists through 16 matches this season.
Her six assists is the most by a Bluejay since senior Taryn Jakubowski and former Bluejay Lauren Sullivan each collected six in the 2016 season.
