ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Creighton men's tennis team concluded its trip to Illinois with a 5-2 setback against Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.
The Bluejays fell to 1-4, while the Huskies improved to 2-4.
Northern Illinois started the day by only dropping two total games at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. The Huskies earned a pair of 6-1 victories to claim the first point of the day.
The host Huskies secured the team win with straight-sets victories at the No. 2, 3 and 4 singles slots. A 7-5, 6-0 win during the No. 2 singles match clinched the overall match.
Mac Mease gave Creighton its first win of the day with a three-set victory at No. 6. Mease dropped a close first set, 7-5, before battling back for 6-2 and 11-9 wins in the final two frames.
Nick Campbell earned his second win of the season with a three-set victory at the top singles position on Saturday.
"We came out flat and NIU had a lot of energy and took it to us in doubles," head coach Tom Lilly said. "They proved to be the better team today, but we have to come to come out more prepared and have some fight to start the match."
Creighton returns to the courts for a match at Nebraska on Feb. 10.
