Men's Golf Ties for Sixth at SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational

McCormick leads Bluejays with 32nd place finish
MADISON, Ill. -- The Creighton men's golf team tied for sixth place at the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational, which concluded Tuesday in Madison, Ill.

Senior Andrew McCormick was Creighton's top finisher with an overall score of 220 to tie for 32nd place. The Colorado native posted his second below par score of the season with a 69 to open the tournament, which also matched the lowest round of his Bluejay career. He shot an 80 in the second round before shooting a 71 in the final round to end the event.

Nate Vontz compiled an 74.3 scoring average to make a slight improvement from last week's tournament. Vontz opened the event with two rounds of 71 on Monday followed by a round of 81 to tie for 41st.Â

Sophomore Tucker Knaak shot a team-best 68 in the second round to help finish in a tie for 55th. Knaak posted a 73 in the first round before shooting a 68 in the second round, which also tied his best round at CU. Knaak finished the tournament with an 85 for a 226 total.Â

Iowa Western transfer Brandt Radloff took home a 63rd place finish in his first meet as a Bluejay. Radloff shot rounds of 77, 75 and 77 for a 229 overall.Â

Rounding out Creighton's line-up was Jack Olson. Olson completed the tournament in a tie for 80th with rounds of 82, 76 and 75 for a 233 total.Â

Creighton fired an 884 to tie for sixth in the 18-team field. The University of Tennessee-Martin shot an 852 to take home the team title by six shots over Tennessee Tech. Belmont's Evan Davis, Drake's Tim Lim and Southern Utah's Jake Vincent each finished the event 4-under par 209 to share medalist honors in the 99-player field, with Lim winning a three-way playoff.

Creighton will be back on the course on Sept. 30 – Oct. 1 at the Zach Johnson Invitational, hosted by Drake in West Des Moines.Â
