Women's Tennis Ends Bluejay Invitational With Eight Crowns

Bluejays swept doubles play with four doubles championship and earned four singles champions
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team ended a successful Bluejay Invitational with a total of eight champions. The Bluejays swept doubles play with four crowns and earned four titles in singles on Saturday at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
Creighton ended Saturday with a 17-8 record, including a perfect 5-0 in doubles play. The Bluejays finished the weekend with a 36-19 record -- 14-1 in doubles.
Sarah Wilcox and Kate Krueger earned the Flight A Doubles crown with a 6-4 victory. The Bluejays claimed co-champions in Flight B Doubles. The pairs of Emma Gener and Gabby O'Connor and Erin Epperson and Meredith Benson each advanced to Saturday's final and played their opposite semifinal counterparts. Gener and O'Conner earned a 6-1 win on Saturday, while Epperson and Benson won 6-3. In Flight C Doubles Julia Aguirre and Julia King combined to win the championship with a 7-5 victory. Kendra Lavallee and Laura Higueras also paired up for a third-place finish with a 7-5 win.
Gener, Benson, Aguirre and Lavallee each won singles championships.
Gener earned the Flight B singles title with a pair of straight-sets victories on Saturday.
Benson rallied from behind during her semifinal match before winning the Flight C crown. The sophomore lost her first set of the day, 6-1, but came from behind to win 6-1 and 10-4 in the final two sets in the semifinal. Benson cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win in the championship match.
Aguirre also dropped the first set of her semifinal before winning two straight sets and sweeping the final in Flight E.
Lavallee did not lose a set on her way to the Flight F championship.
Krueger, Epperson, Higueras and King each went 1-1 during singles play on Saturday.
The Bluejays conclude the fall season with the ITA Regional Championship in Norman, Oklahoma, Oct. 17-20.
