Bluejays battle with strong Cornhuskers squad
The Bluejays fell to 2-3, while the Huskers improved to 4-0.
Nebraska earned the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Creighton fell 6-3 at No. 2 and 6-4 at No. 3. Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox combined at the top slot and led 6-5 before the other two matches ended.
Creighton fell in straight-sets at three of the top four singles slots. Erin Epperson battled to a tiebreaker in the second set before falling during the No. 4 singles match.
"We were up against a strong team today," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We fought hard in singles and gave them several tough sets, but they proved to be too strong today. It was a good experience and we made the most of the opportunity to improve."
The Bluejays return to the courts next weekend for a pair of home matches. Creighton hosts Northern Illinois on Feb. 8 before matching up against Saint Louis on Feb. 9.
