ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Creighton men's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Georgetown on Tuesday afternoon in Orlando at the USTA National Campus as the Bluejays recorded their second consecutive win against a BIG EAST opponent.
Creighton improved to 5-5 overall and 2-1 against BIG EAST foes after the Bluejays defeated Xavier on Monday and the Hoyas on Tuesday.
Creighton earned the doubles point by winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Mac Mease and Nick Campbell combined for a 6-2 win at the top slot. Armando Gandini and Jose Oscar Diaz competed in a tiebreaker at the No. 3 slot and claimed a 7-5 margin of victory in the tiebreaker.
Gandini's doubles victory marked his 100th win at Creighton.
The Bluejays jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the dual with straight-sets wins by Mease (No. 4) and Stratton Brown (No. 2) but the Hoyas evened the score with straight-sets wins of their own at the No. 1, 3 and 5 positions.
Joe Hoff clinched the dual for Creighton with a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 6 for his fifth consecutive singles win.
"This was a great win for us in a hard fought match," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We had a few spots play very well and a couple that just didn't have it today, but we hung tough to get the win."
Creighton is back in action on Wednesday with a match against Northern Kentucky at 11:15 a.m.
