OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Wyoming on Saturday night at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The Bluejays dropped their season record to 3-1 and snapped a 10-match winning streak dating back to Feb. 22, 2020.
Creighton started the night by winning at all three doubles positions. Emma Gener and Malvika Shukla opened the action with a quick 6-0 win at the No. 3 position. Kate Krueger and Sarah Wilcox battled for a 7-5 win at the top spot before Joanna Nowakowska and Alex Centra paired for a 7-5 tiebreaker victory.
Krueger extended Creighton's early lead to 2-0 with a swift 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 1 singles position.
Wyoming won in straight-sets at the No. 3, 4 and 5 slots to gain a 3-2 advantage.
Shukla notched her first career singles victory as a Bluejay with a three-set win in the No. 6 match. The India native won the first set 6-3 and fell in the second 6-4, but cruised to a 6-0 in the deciding set to tie the team score at 3-3.
The final result came down to the No. 2 singles match. Wilcox lost 6-1 in the opening set before winning 6-2 in the second frame. The Cowgirls edged out the overall win with a 6-3 decision in the final set.
"We played very well overall against a very good team," head coach Tom Lilly said. "Our doubles and Kate playing awesome at No. 1 gave us a chance and we nearly pulled it out. It was a terrific effort and I like what this team can do when we pull together."
Creighton returns to the courts for a BIG EAST match on Friday against DePaul at the Hanscom Tennis Center. First serve between the Bluejays and Blue Demons is scheduled for 7 p.m.
