Both Games Deliver Final of 11-3
Lawrence, Kan. -- The Creighton Baseball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader at Kansas on Saturday, March 20. The final score for both games was 11-3.
Following Saturday's results the Bluejays fell to 4-6 on the season, while Kansas moved to 11-6.
GAME 1Â - Kansas 11, Creighton 3
Bluejay starter Jonah Smith took the loss (1-2), allowing seven runs on 10 hits and five walks in five innings.
Creighton took a 1-0 in the opening frame as leadoff man David Webel singled to left, stole second then scampered home as senior Parker Upton singled up the middle.
The Jayhawks, however, jumped on Smith with a run in the first and three in the second.
Upton led the Bluejays with two hits in the game, going 2-for-3.
GAME 2Â - Kansas 11, Creighton 3
The second game followed a similar script as the Bluejays pushed across a run in the top of the first. Creighton loaded the bags in the first frame as three of the first four hitters drew a walk. Freshman Alan Roden cashed in with an RBI ground out.
The lead, however, was short lived as Kansas scored single runs in each of the first three innings. The Jayhawks tacked on two in the fourth, then blew the game open with four in the sixth.
Freshman Cade Lommel took the loss (0-1), allowing three runs on six hits in four innings.
Sophomore Andrew Meggs led the offense with two hits, finishing 2-for-4.
The Bluejays and Jayhawks will wrap up the four-game series on Sunday at 1:00 pm
