Women's Soccer Downed 1-0 at Iowa State

Ames, Iowa -- The Creighton Women's Soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Iowa State on Thursday, Sept. 16 in the final non-conference match of 2021.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 6-2-1 on the season, while Iowa State climbed to 3-4-0.
Iowa State was limited to just one shot in the first half, but the shot gave the Cyclones a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute (34:18). The goal started on a free kick near that middle of the pitch. Iowa State goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz started the sequence by sending a shot towards the left corner. Brooke Miller received the ball, then centered the ball, where Clara Thimstrand pushed it past Creighton's Keelan Terrell.
The Cyclone tally ended Terrell and the Creighton defense's scoreless streak of 507:38 minutes. Before Thimstrand's goal, the last score surrendered by Creighton came in a 1-0 loss at Tulsa on Aug. 26.
Offensively the Bluejays had two dangerous scoring chances early in the first half, closing the opening 45-minute frame with a 5-1 shot advantage. The first chance was stopped as sophomore Abigail Sanchez shot attempt was blocked. The second scoring threat saw Silkowitz make consecutive saves on shots by Aida Kardovic and Michaela Weist.
The Bluejays closed the match holding a 7-5 shot edge.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Thursday, Sept. 23 in the BIG EAST opener against No. 25 Georgetown at 7:00 pm.
