Women's Soccer Opens BIG EAST Road Play at Providence

Providence, R.I. -- Bluejay women's soccer begins road BIG EAST action on Sunday, September 26 at Providence for an early match set to begin at 11:00 am.

Series History: Bluejays trail Friars, 3-4-0
Creighton battles Providence for the eighth time on Sunday. The Bluejays are 1-2-0 in Providence and trail the overall series 3-4-0. Providence has won the last two meetings, including a heart breaking 3-2 loss in overtime that kept the Bluejays out of the BIG EAST Tournament in 2018.

Scouting Providence (5-3-1, 0-1-0 BIG EAST)
The Friars pushed #21 Xavier to overtime in their BIG EAST opening match on Thursday, but ultimately fell 1-0 in the 96th minute. Providence enters the contest on Sunday with four victories in its last six matches. The only other loss was also in overtime, 3-2 at Wisconsin on Sept. 12.
Meg Hughes has paced the Friars offense with six goals and two assists for 14 points. Providence had scored in every match until the meeting with Xavier on Thursday.
Defensively the Friars boast a pair of shutouts and have allowed 13 goals in nine contests. Emma Bodmer has spent the vast majority of time in net for Providence this season, allowing 1.32 goals against per 90 minutes.
Scouting Creighton (6-2-2, 0-0-1 BIG EAST)
The Bluejays' calling card throughout the non-conference season has been defense. Creighton held opponents out of the goal for over 500 minutes, yielding just four goals total in 10 matches.
On offense sophomore Abigail Santana has a team best seven goals. The Bluejays have moved Aida Kardovic, last years point leader, into the midfield to account for the injury to Ansley Atkinson.
Junior goalkeeper Keelan Terrell saw her scoreless streak end at 508 minutes (507:38), snapped by at Iowa State on Thursday, September 16. Terrell remains the NCAA leader this season with six shutouts this season and delivered a strong performance against #25 Georgetown.
Return to the BIG EAST Tournament Will Be Paved on the Road
To reach the Bluejays' goal of a return trip to the BIG EAST Tournament (top six teams), Creighton will need to find points on the road. During the Bluejays' eight seasons in the BIG EAST Creighton has a combined road record of 8-21-7 in conference play. Last season the Bluejays earned a pair of victories away from Morrison Stadium.
