Providence, R.I. -- Despite an impressive effort from the Creighton women's soccer team in a road match against the Providence Friars, the Bluejays fell 1-0 in overtime on a bicycle kick in the 94th minute on Sunday, September 26th.
The loss dropped Creighton to 6-3-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in BIG EAST play, while Providence climbed to 6-3-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference action.
A defensive slugfest was decided in the 94th minute (93:03) as Providence's Hannah McNulty lofted a pass into the box for a bicycle kick from Kyla Gallagher that slotted above the outstretched arms of Bluejay goalkeeper Keelan Terrell and just under the crossbar.
Terrell was brilliant in the defeat with four saves. One of her best stops came in the 93rd minute as a centering pass came to Friar leading scorer Meg Hughes. Terrell raced to the ball, denying a shot, then Creighton's Hitomi Yamaue cleared the ball to the right.
Creighton's best scoring chance came near the end of the first half as junior Aida Kardovic's crossing shot was poked away by Providence's goalkeeper, Emma Bodmer.
The Bluejays were out shot 16-7 in the match, including 3-0 in overtime.
Creighton returns home on Thursday, September 30th for a match with Marquette in Morrison Stadium at 7:00 pm.
