Dominant Effort from Tommy Steier Gives Creighton Baseball 8-5 Victory at LMU

Bluejays Take Series with the win
The win pushed Creighton to 2-5 on the season, while LMU fell to 2-5-1.
Down 2-0 in the top of the third, Creighton took advantage of an error that allowed leadoff hitter Andrew Meggs to reach. Two batters later sophomore Alan Roden launched a game-tying home run to right center on the first pitch of his at bat.
The following inning Creighton grabbed a 3-2 lead as a pair of LMU errors allowed Kyle Hess and Hogan Helligso to reach. Meggs and freshman Nolan Sailors followed with a sac bunt and sac fly.
LMU, however, reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a three run homer by Ben Grunberg. The three-run blast chased Creighton starter Dominic Cancellieri, bringing Steier on for the final out of the frame.
The Lions held the lead into sixth, when the Bluejays used the long ball once more. It was the top of the lineup supplying the thump as Meggs drilled a double down the left field line, then Sailors blasted a game-tying shot over the right field wall to bring the contest to 5-5.
The score remained knotted until the top of the ninth, when junior Sterling Hayes worked a walk and scored via an RBI triple by junior Jack Grace. Later in the frame Meggs slashed a two-run single up the middle for extra insurance.
Steier went back to work in the ninth, closing the door on the Lions for his first win (1-0) of the season. Steier went 5.2 innings, allowing just one hit and two walks to secure the series win for Creighton.
LMU reliever Alex Burge took the loss (0-1), surrendering four runs on four hits in three innings of work.
Meggs guided the offense with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI.
