SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Creighton softball team dropped both games during a BIG EAST doubleheader against Seton Hall on Saturday at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field in South Orange, N.J. The Pirates won 4-3 in the first game of the day before downing the Bluejays 7-4 in game two.

Seton Hall put the first dent on the score board with three runs in the bottom of the second to grab an early 3-0 lead. The Pirates starting pitcher Shelby Smith led off the inning with a solo home run before a bases loaded single and walk bought two more runs across the plate.
Both team went scoreless until Creighton knotted thing up in the sixth inning as sophomore Emma Rosonke delivered a bases clearing double down the right field line to even the score up at 3-3. Seton Hall responded in the bottom half of the inning with a leadoff single from Hannah Alexander, before advancing to third on back-to-back walks. Janae Barracato then drove across the go-ahead run with a groundout to first, giving the Pirate a 4-3 victory.
Rosonke went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI to lead the Bluejays offense, while despite tossing four scoreless inning, junior Kate Mullally was tagged with her first loss of the season.
Creighton threatened to score right out of the gates in game two as Vejvoda and Kailey Wilson drew walks, before Sam Alm then loaded the bases with a single down the right field line. Seton Hall stopped the Bluejays in their tracks by throwing out Vejvoda at home on a fielder's choice by Mills and by getting a groundout from Rosonke to keep the Jays off the scoreboard.
Seton Hall then took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on four hits and two free passes. Creighton freshman Alexis Wiggins got a pair of groundouts before Smith launched her second home run of the day over the left field wall to start the Pirates rally. Seton Hall then used back-to-back singles and back-to-back walks as well as a wild pitch from Wiggins to push another two runs across the plate and extend the lead out to 4-0.
The Bluejays responded with a run of their own in the top of the second as senior catcher Shayna Dahlen drew a four-pitch walk to start the inning. Following a strikeout that saw Megan Miklesh steal second, Vejvoda plated the Bluejays first run of the second game with an RBI single up the middle.
Creighton cut into the Pirates lead once again in the top of the fourth on an RBI double down the right field line by Vejvoda.
