Softball Drops 3-1 Decision To Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Sophomore Jena Lawrence tossed four scoreless innings before the Creighton softball fell to Butler, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Butler Softball Field in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Bluejays dropped to 14-23 on the year and 4-14 in BIG EAST play, while Butler improved to 15-14 overall and 11-5 in conference action with their sixth win in their last seven contests.
Creighton put the first dent on the scoreboard in the top half of the fourth inning as sophomore Emma Rosonke collected her league-leading 41st RBI of the season on a groundout. Junior Kailey Wilson got the Bluejays started with a leadoff single right back up the middle, while junior Kiara Mills followed by reaching on a throwing error by the Bulldogs on a sacrifice bunt that moved freshman Megan Miklesh over to third. Rosonke then pushed Miklesh across the plate on a groundout to second for the Bluejays first run of the game.
Butler countered with three runs in the bottom half of the fifth to grab the lead. Lauren Fey singled to lead off the inning before stealing second and advancing to third on a single by Ellie Boyer. Boyer then stole second herself while Ella White drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases. Mackenzie Griman pushed the Bulldogs first run of the game across with a RBI groundout too short to even thing up at 1-1.
With the score evened up pinch hitter Mallory McMahon laid down a sacrifice bunt but the Bluejays were unable to beat the runner home as Butler took a 2-1 lead. Teagen O"Rilley worked a five-pitch walk to load the base once again before Maddie Moore delivered a RBI single into the left centerfield gap to extend the Bulldogs lead to 3-1.
Alyssa Graves retired the final six Bluejays at the plate to earn her 10th of the season, allowing just two hits and striking out 12 Bluejays on the day.
Wilson extended her hit streak to five straight games, while sophomore Madeline Vejvoda collected the Bluejays only other hit of the game. Lawrence suffered her fourth loss of the season after allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four in 4.1 innings of work, while junior Mikayla Santa Cruz did not allow a run in 1.2 inning of relief.
