Men’s Tennis Earns 7-0 Sweep of Midland

All six Bluejays picked up straight-set victory in singles.
OMAHA, Neb. – Playing their first home match since Feb. 19, the Creighton men's tennis team picked up a 7-0 sweep of Midland on Friday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The Bluejays improved to 7-8 on the year, while Midland dropped to 14-4 overall.
Creighton earned the doubles point with quick 6-0 wins at the top and bottom doubles positions. Sophomore Matthew Lanahan and senior Jose Oscar Diaz teamed up for a 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot, while freshman Ethan Neil and sophomore Zack Maline captured a 6-0 victory of their own at the No. 3 doubles position. Senior Stratton Brown and sophomore Shin Inoue also paired up for a 6-4 triumph at the No. 2 slot.
The Bluejays tallied straight-set victories at all six singles position to earn the 7-0 victory. Brown started singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top slot, while Inoue won 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 singles position.
Diaz then clinched the overall dual for the Bluejays with a 6-2, 7-5 win at the No. 3 position. Lanahan continued the winning ways for the Bluejays with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at the No. 4 slot before Neil picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 spot and Maline claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 6 singles position.
"Midland is a tough NAIA team in the Midwest and played some tough tennis," said head coach Tom Lilly. "Our guys had to step up a bit at time and playing without Casey Ross makes things a bit more difficult. We play a very strong Drake team tomorrow and will compete at each spot."
The Bluejays return to the courts tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. match against Drake in Des Moines, Iowa.
