Men's Soccer Battles No. 2 Stanford to 1-1 Draw

Omaha, Neb. -- Facing No. 2 Stanford in the 10th Annual Socctoberfest, the Creighton Men's Soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against the Cardinal on Friday, Sept. 9 in Morrison Stadium.
Following Friday's action the Bluejays moved to 2-1-2 on the season, while Stanford moved to 4-0-1.
The Cardinal got on the board in a flash, scoring just 41.5 seconds into the match as Carlo Agostinelli, grabbed a deflected shot from Jackson Kill then beat Creighton defender Miguel Ventura for his third goal of the season.
Giving up the early goal put the Bluejays off their initial game as Creighton needed a pair of one-on-one saves from senior Paul Kruse to remain down just 1-0 as the match moved to halftime.
In the second half the match flipped into the Bluejays favor. Creighton was out shot 7-5 in the opening half, while Creighton held a 5-1 edge on corners. In the second half the Bluejays created the more dangerous chances.
Finally in the 74th minute, Creighton found the equalizer as sophomore Jackson Castro notched his third goal of the season. Senior Charles Auguste and freshman Ben Foulks each earned assists on the play, but sophomore Giorgio Probo was critical to the goal as well. Foulks sent a pass to Probo, who one touched it to Auguste. The senior connected a pass to Foulks, who promptly found Castro for the equalizer.
The match remained tied at 1-1 to its conclusion, with Creighton held an 8-3 edge on corners and Stanford held a 13-11 advantage on shots.

Creighton returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 14 in its first road match of the season at Omaha. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
