Bluejay Women's Hoops Ties Program Record in 115-62 Win Over Northern Iowa

Creighton Equals Most Points in a Regulation Game with 115
Omaha, Neb. -- Five Bluejays finished in double figures as Creighton Women's Basketball tied a program record for points in a regulation game as the Bluejays defeated Northern Iowa 115-62 on Sunday, December 3.
The win pushed the Bluejays to 6-1 on the season, while the Panthers fell to 1-6.
Senior Emma Ronsiek set the tone in the first quarter as the South Dakota native went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc as she scored 14 of her game-high 25 points in the opening frame. Ronsiek and fellow senior Molly Mogensen traded baskets in the first three minutes as Creighton dashed out to an 11-2 lead (7:16). The Panthers closed within five at 14-9 (5:22) only to watch Creighton respond with a 14-2 surge to take a 28-11 edge with 1:42 remaining. Ronsiek led the burst with eight points on a pair of treys and a short jumper. Seniors Morgan Maly and Lauren Jensen as well as sophomore Kiani Lockett contributed with buckets as well as the Bluejays led 32-15 as the game moved to the second.
Northern Iowa opened the second quarter with consecutive three-pointers to draw a Creighton timeout with 9:22. The Bluejays responded to head coach Jim Flanery's pause with a 25-2 run over the next eight minutes. The Bluejays got at least one bucket from nine of its 10 active players, led by the final five points by freshman McKayla Miller. She was the only player with more than one bucket as Creighton grabbed a 57-23 (1:05) advantage.
The Bluejays didn't step off the gas in the second half, pushing the lead to 43 midway through the third quarter with another 30-point frame. Finally in the fourth quarter the Bluejay advantage grew to as much as 56 at 112-56 (1:06). The Bluejay bench contributed 51 points in the contest, including 34 in the second half.
Joining Ronsiek in double figures for Creighton were Lockett and redshirt freshman Brittany Harshaw with 14 points, while Mogensen finished with 12 points. The final in the Bluejay quartet with double figures was Jensen with 10 points. Maly led Creighton with 10 rebounds, also delivering nine points.
Northern Iowa got 16 points from Taryn Wharton and 10 points from Emerson Green.
Creighton's 115 point total is the most points scored under head coach Jim Flanery, while it tied the second most in program history. The only time a squad scored more was a 117-108 win in quadruple overtime against Loyola on Jan. 12, 1986. The last time Creighton scored 115 points was against Oral Roberts on December 6, 1989.
The Bluejays finished with 20 made three-pointers, tied for the second most in a single game, finishing 20-for-33 (60.6%). Overall Creighton finished 43-for-68 from the field (63.2%).
Creighton returns to action on Sunday, December 10 as the Bluejays travel to Wyoming for a game slated to start at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
