Men’s Tennis Sweeps Rochester, 7-0, To Open Spring Break In Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Creighton men's tennis team pushed its winning streak to seven consecutive matches as the Bluejays swept Rochester, 7-0, on Monday afternoon at the USTA Tennis Center in Orlando Florida.
The win lifted the Bluejays to 7-3 on the year, while Rochester fell to 1-3 overall.
Doubles action started swiftly in favor of the Bluejays as Creighton took an early advantage with a quick 6-1 win at the No. 3 doubles position by Yuma Daijima and Casey Ross. Kirtan Paten and Zack Maline followed with a 7-6 (7-2) win at the No. 2 doubles spot, earning the first point of the match. Zachary Kuo and Alejandro Gandini also captured a 7-5 win at the top doubles position for the Bluejays.
In singles play, Creighton did not lose a set as all six positions earned straight-set victories on the way to claiming the 7-0 win.
Ricky Rubio did not lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at the No. 6 singles spot for his first singles win of the season. Oscar Alvarez followed suit, claiming a 6-0, 6-2 win on the No. 3 singles court before Gandini capture a 6-3, 6-2 straight-sets win at the No. 2 spot.
Matthew Lanahan, the reigning BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week, secured his seventh straight singles win with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the top singles position. Moments later, Ethan Neil scored a 6-4, 6-1 win on the No. 5 singles court, his first singles win of the season, to give the Bluejays a 6-0 lead. Shin Inoue closed out the sweep with 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 triumph at the No. 4 singles position to complete the Bluejays first sweep of the season.
Creighton will return to the court on Tuesday, March 7 at 2 p.m. when they take on Stonehill College at the USTA Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida.
