Softball Recognizes Seniors, Drops Game Against Butler

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton softball team recognized its seniors on Saturday but dropped a 10-0 decision to Butler at the Creighton Sports Complex.Â

Creighton moved to 0-8 in BIG EAST play and 13-21 overall, while Butler improved to 8-0 in league play and 13-19 on the year.Â
Â
The Bluejays honor Saren Croker and Kailey Wilson, as well as the Butler seniors after the game.Â
Â
Butler jumped on the Bluejays from the start, scoring one run in the first, two in the third, one in the fourth and six in the fifth to secure a 10-0 run-rule victory.Â
Â
The Bulldogs used back-to-back singles and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases in the top of the first before an RBI groundout by Teagan O'Rilley pushed across the first run of the game.Â

The Bluejays held Butler scoreless in the second before an RBI single by Paige Dorsett and an sacrifice fly by O'Rilley gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 edge after three complete innings.Â
Â
In the fourth, Butler's Ellie Boyer hit a leadoff double to right center and came around to score on a single back up the middle by Olivia Moxley, pushing the Bulldogs advantage out to 4-0.Â

Butler tacked on six addition runs in the top of the fifth inning on five hits, including a two-run home run by Monique Hoosen and a bases clearing double by Ella White to secure the run-rule win.Â

Freshman Erika Perez and Wilson recorded one hit apiece, while Cayla Nielsen and Madeline Vejvoda each drew a walk for the Bluejays offense. Sophomore Alyssa Bostley got the start in the circle for the first time in her career and suffered the loss after allowing nine runs on 11 Butler hits.Â

Creighton and Butler will conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon with first. Pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. at the Creighton Sports Complex.
