Bluejay Baseball Disposes of St. John's 10-2 to Claim Series

Omaha, Neb. -- The middle of the order shined for Creighton Baseball on Saturday, April 22 as the Bluejays delivered a 10-2 win over St. John's to take the series.
Junior Nolan Clifford, grad transfer Tyler Lozano and senior Sterling Hayes combined to go 6-for-13 (.462) with five RBI and four runs scored as the Bluejays climbed to 17-14 on the season and 5-3 in BIG EAST action. St. John's, meanwhile, fell to 19-17 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
Creighton's offense began to percolate in the second as Hayes, senior Jack Grace and sophomore Hogan Helligso delivered consecutive singles in the second to make it 1-0.
The Bluejays plated three in the third as senior Andrew Meggs and Clifford set the table for a two-run double by Lozano, then Hayes smacked an RBI single through the left side to make it 4-0.
St. John's got on the board with an RBI double by Jimmy Keenan in the fourth, but Creighton answer with four runs in its half of the frame. The runs came home on a two-run single by sophomore Nolan Sailors, an RBI walk by Hayes and a sacrifice fly by Grace.
The Bluejays added runs in the sixth via an RBI single from freshman Tate Gillen and and RBI triple by Lozano.
Creighton starter Ryan Windham earned the win (4-1), holding St. John's to one run on two hits and four walks in five innings. St. John's starter Dylan Johnson took the loss (2-3), allowing four runs on eight hits in four innings.
Six Bluejays finished with two hits as the team pounded out a combined 16 in the win. Lozano closed the game with three RBI and two runs scored.
The Bluejays and Red Storm face off in the series finale on Sunday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m.
