Baseball Drops Finale to Villanova in 10-Innings, 8-6

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton Baseball team dropped an 8-6 decision to Villanova in 10-innings on Saturday, April 8.
The loss moved Creighton to 14-11 on the season and 2-1 in BIG EAST action, while Villanova climbed to 6-24 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
After Villanova took a 1-0 lead with a solo home run from Jake Bollin in the fifth, Creighton answered with three runs in the sixth. Senior Sterling Hayes put Creighton in front with a two-run double, then scored on an error as the Bluejays surged ahead 3-1.
The Wildcats answered with a trio of runs off Bluejay closer Tommy Steier in the seventh, only to watch Creighton answer with three in the bottom half of the frame. Seniors Tyler Lozano and Jack Grace laced RBI singles in the seventh, while pinch runner Hogan Helligso scored on a wild pitch.
Villanova pulled even with two runs in the eighth off of Tommy Lamb, then took advantage of a misplayed ball in the tenth to plate a pair.
Villanova reliever Sal Fusco picked up the win (1-4) with 3.2 scoreless frames, while Bluejay reliever Daniel Hammond took the loss with a pair of runs in 1.2 innings.
Creighton returns to the diamond on Monday, April 10 as the Bluejays travel to Kansas State for a single game against the Wildcats.
