OMAHA, Neb. --Â Creighton men's golfers Jackson Thompson and Charlie Zielinski each earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team honors on Tuesday, May 23.Â
Â
The 2023 Academic All District ® Men's At-Large Team, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for the combined performances on the course and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America ® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions. NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division II and NAIA. Sports eligible for men's at-large program consideration include fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
This is the first recognition from College Sports Communicators for both men, as Creighton had not had a men's golfer named Academic All-District in more than 20 years before today's recognition.
A junior from Dakota Dunes, S.D., Thompson is a BIA and FinTech major. He played 20 rounds this past season for CU, averaging 76.35 strokes per loop. That includes two rounds of par or better and a season-low round of 71 in the BIG EAST Championship.
Zielinski led Creighton with a 73.67 scoring average in 2022-23, shooting par or better in 11-of-30 rounds. He was named to the All-BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team for the second straight season after finishing in the top five at the league tournament for the second straight season. A two-time Second Team All-BIG EAST performer, Zielinski is an Omaha native and an Accounting major.
Thompson and Zielinski will now be listed on the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Those honorees will be announced on June 21st.
