Offense Struggles in 4-1 Loss to Xavier

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball dropped a 4-1 decision to Xavier on Saturday, May 6.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 22-17 overall and 9-5 in BIG EAST play, while Xavier climbed to 29-17 overall and 10-4 in conference action.
Xavier jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with four singles in the first, getting RBI knocks from Matt McCormick and Carter Hendrickson. The Musketeers pushed their edge to 3-0 with a sac fly in the second from Andrew Walker, but were held to just two hits over the final seven frames.
The Bluejays first hit of the evening got Creighton on the board as senior Jack Grace lined an RBI single through the right side to plate sophomore Nolan Sailors. The Bluejay center fielder reached via a leadoff walk.
Senior Sterling Hayes collected Creighton's second hit of the game came in the seventh, a two-out single to center.
The starters were the pitchers of record as Ryan Windham took the loss (5-2), allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings. Xavier hurler Ethan Bosacker moved to 6-3 with seven innings of one run ball, while Joe Kelly worked two innings for his first save of the season.
The Musketeers and Bluejays face off in the series finale on Sunday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m.
