Baseball Dominates Dons, 13-5

Omaha, Neb. -- Colby Canales broke open a 2-2 game with a grand slam in the bottom of the as Creighton Baseball defeated San Francisco 13-5 on Friday, March 15.
The win moved the Bluejays to 13-2 on the season, while the Dons fell to 12-6.
Creighton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third as Will MacLean and Matt Scherrman each connected on RBI singles to drive home Nolan Sailors and Teddy Deters, both of whom reached via a base on balls.
San Francisco pulled even with two runs in the fifth, taking advantage of two singles, two walks and a hit batter.
Creighton wasted no time with a response loading the bags with a walk to Sailors, a two-out HBP to Ben North and a walk by Scherrman. After working a 3-0 count, Canales took strike one then blasted his third home run of the season to center field.
The two squads traded runs in the sixth, but Creighton put the game away with three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth.
A trio of Bluejays closed the game with two hits, Canales (2-for-4), Hogan Helligso (2-for-5) and Kyle Hess (2-for-5).
Bluejay starter Dominic Cancellieri earned the win (4-0), limiting San Francisco to two runs on two hits in five innings. San Francisco reliever Blake Shepardson took the loss (0-2), allowing four runs on one hit, two walks and a hit batter.
Creighton and San Francisco continue the three-game series on Saturday, March 16 with a 2:00 p.m. contest.
