Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball suffered a 6-3 loss to San Francisco as the Dons evened the series on Saturday, March 16.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 13-3 on the season, while USF climbed to 13-6.
Creighton got off to a fast start as three of the first four Bluejay hitters drew a walk, then Colby Canales drove a two-run single through the left side to give Creighton a 2-0 advantage.
San Francisco drew closer with a run in the second on three singles, highlighted by an RBI knock from Tyson Moore.
The Dons seized control of the game in the fourth as leadoff man Kody Watanabe blasted a three-run homer to right, taking advantage of two walks in the frame.
San Francisco tacked on single runs in the fifth and the top of the ninth, yet Creighton had one more chance to swipe the game.
The bottom of the ninth saw Nolan Sailors and Teddy Deters deliver singles, then a fielding error loaded the bases for Creighton with no outs. The rally was stymied as Ben North bounced into a double play to plate Sailors and Hogan Helligso closed the game on a pop out to second.
San Francisco starter Lance Santerre picked up the win (2-0), limiting Creighton to two runs on two hits and three walks over five innings, while reliever Gabriel Barrett collected a four-inning save. Creighton's Jimmy Burke took the loss (1-2), allowing five runs on six hits and four walks in 3.2 innings.
Colby Canales closed the game with two of Creighton's five hits, including the two-run single in the opening frame.
