Men’s Tennis Cruises To Senior Day Sweep of Nebraska-Kearney

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men's tennis team soared to a 7-0 senior day sweep over Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center, finishing the season with a perfect 7-0 record at home.
Winners of six in a row, Creighton improved to 13-6 on the year, while the Lopers fell to 11-7 overall with the loss.
Junior Alejando Gandini and sophomore Yuma Daijima teamed up to open doubles play with a 6-2 victory on the No. 3 doubles court, moments before senior Shin Inoue and sophomore Zachary Kuo combined for an identical 6-2 win at the No. 2 doubles spot to clinch the first point of the match,
The Bluejays continued to carry moment into singles play, quickly capturing the victory with straight-set wins on the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 single courts.
Gandini quickly grew Creighton's advantage to 2-0, claiming a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at the No. 4 singles position, while senior Matthew Lanahan picked up a 6-2, 6-2 straight-sets win at the top singles spot to give the Jays a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore Kirtan Patel then clinched the overall dual and the Bluejays' sixth consecutive win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on the No. 2 singles court.
The Bluejays did not stop there as Daijima picked up a 5-7, 6-0 11-9 win on the No. 5 singles court to push the Jays lead to 5-0. Inoue followed by coming from behind in both sets to pick up a 7-5, 7-5 straight-sets victory.
Kuo then closed out the home portion of the scheduled and the 7-0 sweep with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 three-set win on the No. 3 singles court.
The Bluejays will play their final two matches of the regular season on the road, starting with a match at Lamar in Beaumont, Texas on Friday, April 12 at 2 p.m.
