Baseball Falls to Saint Mary's 11-6 in Series Opener

The Bluejays struck first as Dakota Duffalo blast a two-run home run to left-center in the bottom of the second. Saint Mary's answered with the first two runs of the season off Creighton starter Dominic Cancellieri, but the Bluejays reclaimed the lead via an RBI single up the middle by Nolan Sailors in the bottom of the fifth.
A seven-run sixth inning turned things the Gaels' way as Saint Mary's got a three-run blast from Bria Duroff and a two-run shot by Cody Kashimoto to surge out to a 9-3 edge.
Creighton tried to claw back with three runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run single from Ben North.
Bluejay reliever Shane Curtin took the loss (1-1), allowing six runs on five hits and a walk in one-third of an inning. Gael starter Dylan Delvecchio collected teh win (2-0) giving up three runs on five hits and two walks in six innings.
Creighton and Saint Mary's will play a doubleheader on Sunday, March 23 beginning at 1:00 pm to conclude the three-game set.\
