Scouting the Pirates (2025: 12-21, 0-3 BIG EAST)
Seton Hall enters the weekend series with the Bluejays on a four-game losing streak as the Pirates dropped a midweek battle with Rutgers on Tuesday and were swept by St. John's in its BIG EAST opening series last weekend.
Typically a team built on the mound, the Pirates have struggled in 2025 with a team ERA of 7.02. Eight different arms have been used to start games this season, but the top two rotation guys remain Ryan Reich (0-6 with a 5.70 ERA) and Cole Hansen (1-2 with a 6.21 ERA).
Another lasting characteristic for the Pirates has been their blazing speed. That hasn't changed as Seton Hall's top two hitters Aiden Robbins and AJ Soldra are a combined 24-for-26 on the base paths. Robbins leads SHU with a .429 average, while Soldra boasts a .312 average. The thump for the Pirates are Kevin Milewski (8 HR and 31 RBI) as well as Jimmy Brennan (5 HR and 29 RBI).
Scouting the Bluejays (2025: 19-9, 2-1 BIG EAST)
The Bluejays took a big step forward last weekend with the program's first series win over Connecticut as well as a victory over Nebraska. Tuesday, however, brought a surprising setback versus North Dakota State.
Creighton is hitting a .281 as a team, led by senior Nolan Sailors (.422), junior Ben North (.345) and transfer Dakota Duffalo (.328). Two additional regulars are on a hot streak as Connor Capece is hitting .429 over the last 10 games, while Kyle Hess is at .375 over the same stretch.
On the mound the Bluejays have a team ERA of 4.12 with 231 strikeouts in 240 innings. Bullpen arm Matthew Aukerman is off to a 6-0 start recording 23 strikeouts in 26 innings, while closer Garrett Langrell is 3-1 with seven saves.
Creighton's Midweek Win Streak Snapped at 17
Entering the season with 13 consecutive wins in midweek contests, the Bluejays extended that with four straight midweek wins in 2025, but the 3-2 loss to North Dakota State on April 8 stopped the run at 17.
Creighton won all 12 midweek games in 2024 as well as the final midweek contest of 2023.
Prior to the 3-2 defeat to NDSU, the last midweek loss came to Nebraska on May 09, 2023 in a 7-4 contest.
Bluejays Open BIG EAST Play with Statement Series Win Over Connecticut
Having missed the last two BIG EAST Tournaments and facing the defending champion in the opening series, Creighton made a statement by taking two of three from the Huskies. Entering the season Creighton was just 2-9 against UConn.
700 Wins Within Reach for Servais This Weekend
Creighton head coach Ed Servais enters the weekend series with Seton Hall just three wins shy of 700 during his Creighton career. His Bluejay record is 697-413-1 and his overall mark is 879-495-2.
Coaching Class of 2004
Only seven NCAA baseball head coaches hired in 2004 remain in their positions 21 years later, including Creighton's Ed Servais, who stands at the helm for the 2025 baseball campaign in his final season with the Bluejays.
Other standouts coaches with the same tenure as Servais include two BIG EAST teams– Jim Penders for Connecticut's and Rob Sheppard for Seton Hall– as well as Creighton alum Brian O'Connor for Virginia, Craig Gibson for Mercer, Mark Machtolf for Gonzaga and Gary Adcock for California Baptist.
Head Coach (Current School)Â Â Â Record at Current School

Mark Machtolf (Gonzaga)Â Â Â 612-515-2
Rob Sheppard (Seton Hall)Â Â Â 555-549-3
Bluejay Rotation Getting Reinforcements
Having already seen 2024 ace Dominic Cancellieri return from injury in early March, starter Jack Pineau made his 2025 debut against Samford in early April and now Shea Wendt returned from injury in the Connecticut series. Combined with the development of freshman Wilson Magers and four strong midweek starts from Ian Koosman the Bluejay rotation is finding its footing.
Torosian Delivering in a Pinch!
Jack Torosian came up BIG for the second straight pinch hit appearance as the Omaha native blasted a two-run triple against Nebraska. This season he is 6-for-8 (.750) as a pinch hitter this season with a home run, a triple and six RBI.
