Creighton improved to 16-20 on the year and 6-7 in BIG EAST play, with their fourth consecutive league victory, while the Bulldogs fell to 21-16 overall and 10-6 in league action.
The hot-hitting Bluejay finished the contest with 13 combined hits, led by a career-high four hits, including a triple, and five RBI from Pierson. Sophomore Sydney Potter added in a career-high tying five RBI of her own on two hits, including the first triple of her Bluejay career, while junior Ella Dalton collected a double and home run, scoring a career-high three runs on the day.
Senior starter Kenzie Schopfer (3-6) collected her third consecutive victory in the circle, allowing five runs on four hits with three strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work, as sophomore Brooklyn Patchen closed out the contest with 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.
The Bluejays scratched the scoreboard first, plating two runs on three hits in the home half of the first inning. Pierson got things started with a single up the middle, before junior Lily West stayed hot taking one the opposite way to put runners on first and second with only one away. Potter then delivered a two-run single to center, giving the Jays an early 2-0 lead.
Butler quickly responded, taking a 4-2 lead in the top of the second on an obstruction call at home on a squeeze bunt from Kieli Ryan and a three-run home run from Sydney Carter.
Creighton, however, answered with a three-run second to regain a 5-4 lead. Graduate Hannah Poole earned a leadoff walk and coming around to score on an RBI double into the left center field gap from Kenzie Nakasawa, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Walks to Dalton and senior Sydra Seville loaded the bases for Pierson, who then lined a two-run single into center to regain a 5-4 lead for the Bluejays.
CU would extend their advantage out to 8-4 in the home half of the third as junior Erika Perez and Poole led off the frame with back-to-back singles. Two outs later, Seville lined an RBI single through the left side of the infield to give the Jays a 6-4 edge, before a two-run triple from Pierson pushed the lead out to 8-4.
Butler would get a run back in the top half of the fourth as Olivia Moxley blasted a solo shot to left, cutting the deficit down to 8-5, before the Jays erupted for four runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
Dalton opened the frame with a solo home run over the right field wall to make it 9-5. The Jays would then load the bases with a walk to Pierson and Kaelan Schultz, while West reached on a Butler fielding error. Potter then cleared the bases with a standup triple down the right field line to extend the lead out to 12-5.
Following a scoreless top of the sixth, Creighton went back to work as Dalton lined a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Seville followed with a four-pitch walk, before Pierson called game with an RBI single down the right field line to secure the 13-5 run-rule victory for the Bluejays.
Butler's Gwen Baker suffered the loss, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks in just over an inning of work. Offensively, the Bulldogs scattered six hits across throughout their lineup.
Creighton and Butler will continue their three-game set on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the Bluejays Strikeout Cancer game.
