Scouting the Huskers (2025: 16-20, 5-10 B10)
The Huskers come to Charles Schwab Field after posting a 6-4 win over Iowa on Sunday.
Through 35 games (prior to Sunday's contest), Nebraska carries a .263 average as a team. Devin Nunez (.310), Case Sanderson (.303) and Cayden Brumbaugh (.298) lead the Huskers at the plate.
On the mound Nebraska has a team ERA of 5.85. Closer Luke Broderick brings six saves and a 2-1 record in 14.2 innings.
Scouting the Bluejays (2025: 20-11, 3-3 BIG EAST)
The difference between a 1-3 week that included last inning losses in two games was razor thin. The Bluejays started the week with a ninth inning loss to North Dakota State and a walk off loss to Seton Hall on Sunday.
Creighton is hitting a .278 as a team, led by senior Nolan Sailors (.408), junior Ben North (.344) and Connor Capece (.324).
On the mound the Bluejays have a team ERA of 4.30 with 247 strikeouts in 261.2 innings.
Bullpen arm Matthew Aukerman is off to a 6-0 start, while closer Garrett Langrell is 4-1 with seven saves.
Gillen and North Provide Power Surge in New Jersey
Although the Bluejays dropped the series at Seton Hall, Tate Gillen and Ben North provided more than a little thump in New Jersey. Gillen closed the weekend 6-for-11 with three home runs, while North went 4-for-12 with a pair of bombs.
Each Bluejay reached mini milestones as Gillen became the first Bluejay to lead off a game with a home run since Nolan Sailors did so against Nebraska on April 30, 2024. He also homered in three consecutive games, the first to do so since Jake Holton did so against Illinois State on March 30-31 in 2019.
North, meanwhile, homered twice in the series finale. The Bluejay shortstop did so in consecutive at-bats, replacing his own name in both categories as North hit two home runs against UC Davis on March 9. He'd delivered home runs in consecutive at-bats against Houston Christian on February 23, 2024.
Just Second Time in BIG EAST, Bluejays Drop a Series While Scoring At Least Five Runs in Every Game
The series loss at Seton Hall marked the second time Creighton has lost a series that saw the Bluejays score at least five runs in each game. The only other time it happened was last season at Villanova.
