
Men’s Tennis Lands No. 2 Seed For Upcoming BIG EAST Championships

The Bluejays open up the BIG EAST Tournament against No. 7 seeded Marquette
Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton men's tennis team earned the No.2 seed for the 2025 BIG EAST Tennis Championships Presented by Jeep, the league announced the seedings on Monday afternoon. The Bluejays will open postseason play against seventh-seeded Marquette on Friday, April 18 at 11:45 a.m. Central.
The Bluejays will head to Cayce, S.C. looking to take another win over Marquette again this season. Creighton finished its regular season schedule with a 14-10 overall record, including a 4-1 mark against BIG EAST competition. For the third season in a row, the Bluejays matched four conference wins to tie for the most in a single season since joining the BIG EAST in 2013-14.
Marquette enters the week 3-19 overall, with a 1-6 record in league play, claiming a 5-2 win over Villanova earlier this season.
Creighton is 4-15 all-time against Marquette, claiming each of the last three contests. This will be the third time the Bluejays and Golden Eagles have met during the BIG EAST tournament with both of the previous victories belonging to Marquette.
Senior Alejandro Gandini and junior Yuma Daijima have held down the top two singles positions, while combining for a team-best 14 wins at the No. 2 doubles position this season for the Bluejays.
Daijima has posted a team-high 28 combined wins, recorded 16 doubles victories and 12 singles wins across the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions. Gandini, meanwhile, combined for 25 victories, including 10 wins at the top singles spot.
Junior Zachary Kuo ranks second on the team with 27 combined wins, finishing the regular season second on the team with 14 singles wins and fourth on the team with 13 doubles victories. Kuo's doubles partner and classmate Kirtan Patel ranks third on the team with 26 total wins, including 12 singles wins, mainly at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions.
Freshman Rocky McKenzie has also been a force for the Bluejays this season, racking up a team-high 15 singles wins across the No. 4, No.5 and No. 6 singles courts. McKenzie enters the BIG EAST Tournament, having won eight consecutive singles matches for the Bluejays.
Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center will host the BIG EAST Championships for the seventh straight year. The facility offers 30 lighted world-class courts with a championship-sized stadium court that holds a viewing capacity of approximately 500 spectators.
Seeding for the championships were determined by a committee that reviews each team's regular season schedule, ITA ranking, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.
The Men's and Women's Championship matches will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) on FloSports. The Women's championship broadcast begins at 8 a.m. CT on Sunday, with the Men's Championship coverage set to follow at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon.
