Creighton Baseball Wraps Up Regular Season at Omaha and Georgetown

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton Bluejay Baseball team closes out the regular season with a chance to claim a BIG EAST Championship. To accomplish the feat, Creighton must sweep its three-game series at Georgetown this weekend. Before all that the Bluejays face Omaha on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:00 pm.

Scouting Omaha (2025: 19-26)
One day after clinching a spot in the Summit League Championship on Saturday with a 11-5 victory over South Dakota State, Omaha dropped its final game 14-3, to ultimately lose its final home series, 2-1.
Saturday's postseason clinching victory over South Dakota State, 14-11, came thanks to an 11-run sixth inning, which would seal the victory and their postseason chances. It was a grand slam from sophomore catcher Cardel Dick (.223) capped off a hit-hitting sixth inning where every batter in Omaha's lineup got on base at least once.
Jackson Trout and Henry Zipay also got a piece of the action in the second game of the series. Trout recorded his second four-hit game of the season and Zipay, the Summit League's leading hitter, posted two doubles.
In the series-deciding third outing, Omaha fell 14-3, giving up four runs in the first and another six in the fourth to seal their fate. SDSU outhit the Mavericks 13-7 by the end of nine innings to take the series.
Zipay brings the firepower to the Mavericks offense in spades, boasting a team-high .395 average in 33 games and 172 at-bats. Trout (.349) remains Omaha's second-most efficient hitter through 45 games and 186 at-bats.
Maverick left-handed pitcher Luke Gainer has the most wins at the mound this season, holding a 6-3 record in 28 innings for a 4.82 ERA. Freshman Tanner Foertsch holds a team-best 3.31 ERA this season, pitching 35.1 innings and recording 32 strikeouts. Â

Scouting Georgetown (2025: 16-37, 3-15 BIG EAST)
Despite dropping the first two games, and therefore the series, against Big East opponent Seton Hall, Georgetown bounced back in a big way to earn their 15th win of the season.
The 6-0 shutout in the final game of the series came thanks to a complete game shutout from senior pitcher Andrew Williams. The Georgetown veteran pitcher allowed just five hits and no runs through the entire nine-inning stretch, throwing three strikeouts after facing 35 batters.
The complete game shutout pushed Williams to a 3-4 record, and marked his second shutout of the season. Starting 13 games this season, Williams pitched 69 innings and posted 59 strikeouts for a 4.43 ERA.
Late-game insurance scoring helped the Hoya finish off the Pirates, as Georgetown ripped off four runs in the eighth inning, taking a 6-0 lead heading into the ninth, where William's closed the game out.
The Hoya offense is led by Blake Schaff (.341), Kavi Caster (.316) and Owen Carapellotti (.306). The three combine for 175 hits on 546 at-bats.
Scouting the Bluejays (2025: 34-14, 14-4 BIG EAST)
Outscoring the Xavier Musketeers 12-8 in their first two contests, the Bluejays punched their ticket to the BIG EAST Tournament and claimed their fifth series victory of the season.
Veteran pitcher Dominic Cancellieri's performance gave Creighton the edge in the first game of the series, as the graduate delivered 7.1 scoreless innings, allowing just six hits and one walk in his longest stint on the mound this season. Bolstered by three runs in the second inning and three more in the seventh, the Jays finished the game with a 6-3 edge.
The following night, with two outs and the game on the line in the bottom of the ninth, Nick Venteicher got on base on a walk before a single from Tate Gillen sent Venteicher to second. Deters would seal the game for the Bluejays just moments later, safely getting on base with an error and allowing Venteicher to score the winning run. The sequence secured Creighton's spot in the conference tournament and secured the series win.
Nolan Sailors (.409), Connor Capece (.359) and Matt Scherrman (.302) continue to anchor the Bluejay offense heading into the final games of the season, recording a combined 147 hits in 404 at-bats.
On the mound, Garrett Langrell leads the charge with a 5-1 record in 19 games, boasting a team-high 1.53 ERA. Matthew Aukerman holds a second-best 2.04 ERA over 20 games and a 7-0 record, while Cancellieri claims a third-best 2.20 ERA over nine games with a 0-1 record.
As a team, the Bluejays claim a .280 average offensively, and 3.98 ERA. Dominic Cancellieri Earns BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week Creighton ace Dominic Cancellieri earned the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on Monday, May 12. Cancellieri delivered 7.1 innings of scoreless baseball in Creighton's 6-3 win over Xavier in the series opening game on Friday, May 9 to help the Bluejays take the series from the Musketeers.
The Creighton ace scattered six hits with one walk, while striking out seven batters. It was the longest outing of the season, and helped the Bluejays secure a spot in the BIG EAST Championship Presented by Jeep.
Battling back from arm surgery following the 2024 season, Cancellieri has progressed back to the Friday night slot. The win over Xavier was his first of the season, moving to 1-1 overall. He enters the weekend series with the Hoyas with a 1.80 ERA over 40.0 innings. He has made 10 starts, allowing just eight earned runs on 36 hits and 15 walks, while striking out 45.
Servais Coaches Final Regular Season Game at Charles Schwab Field Omaha
In his final season at the helm, Bluejay head coach Ed Servais led the squad for the last regular season game at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. Servais closed his tenure with a 221-100 record at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. Servais enters the week with an overall mark of 712-418-1 at Creighton and a career record of 894-500-2.
Nolan Sailors Reaches Base In Last 47 Gamesat Charles Schwab Field Omaha
Bluejay senior Nolan Sailors completed his final two regular seasons with an unblemished mark for reaching base at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. Sailors reached base in all 23 games at home.
