Scouting Creighton (9-11)
Heading into a week chock-full of home games, the Bluejays fell to 9-11 after losing all three road games to Miami. The twoÂ
final games of the series ended in eight innings, as the Hurricanes recorded a collective 26 hits over those two games, leaving Creighton to score just six runs in that time.
The closest score came in the first game, as the Bluejays and Hurricanes battled to 4-4Â entering the bottom of the seventh. Though four Bluejay batters crossed home plate, a five-run seventh inning for Miami, paired with a scoreless eighth and ninth inning for Creighton, sealed the loss 9-4.
In the second game, Connor Capece provided the Bluejays with the 1-0 edge in the second inning for his first home run of the season, but Miami's response quickly turned the one-run advantage into an 11-1 loss in eight innings.
In the final game of the series, North recorded three RBI, but Creighton couldn't hold back Miami's offense, as the Hurricanes scored at least one run in all but one of eight innings, handing the Bluejays a 15-5 loss.
Over the weekend, North recorded five RBI. The graduate infielder holds a 19 RBI and 30 hits on 76 at-bats this season.Â
Scouting Omaha (8-13)
Omaha fell to 8-13 on the season after most recently losing a weekend series to Northern Colorado at home.Â
The Mavericks lost the first game 11-4 courtesy of seven combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the Bears. Rebounding the next day, Omaha pushed Northern Colorado to an 11-inning battle, overcoming the visiting team 12-11.Â
In the extra-inning thriller, Omaha's Chase Diggins came in clutch twice, scoring the tying run in the 10th to push the game to the 11th inning, then hitting a single to secure the win in the 11th.
In the deciding game, the Mavericks once again forced extra time. In the bottom of the ninth, trailing 7-3, Omaha got an RBI single, two-run single and a wild pitch to bring a runner home. This time, though, Northern Colorado gained the edge, scoring in the 10th inning and striking out the Maverick batter running home to end the game 8-7 in favor of Northern Colorado.
Diggins, a critical part of getting the mid-series win, sits at third on the team with a .301 batting average this season. Jackson Trout leads the team with a .410 batting average, recording a team-high 15 RBI.
On the mound, Sam Beck has a team-best 3.93 ERA while Maddox Mayer has 14.1 innings and a team-high 15 strikeouts under his belt for the Mavericks.
