
Keegan Mayhue Claims Second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Honor

OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton softball first baseman Keegan Mayhue has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.
Mayhue was previously honored on March 3, while classmate Zoey Greenwood has also won the award twice this season. In addition to Mayhue earning Freshman of the Week acclaim, junior Kaelan Schultz was also named to this week's BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Mayhue hit an impressive .545 (6-of-11) while contributing a double, two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored and a monster 1.182 slugging percentage as Creighton defeated Drake and took 2-of-3 from Georgetown last week.
The Elm Mott, Texas product recorded at least one hit in all four games, including a career-high tying three hits in the series finale against Georgetown on Saturday.
The freshman standout opened the week in style, blasting a solo home run to right in the Jays' 9-0 win over Drake on Wednesday, before record one hit in both games of Friday's doubleheader with Georgetown. Mayhue then closed out the week in a big way, going 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored while launching her second grand slam home run of the season to guide the Bluejays to an 8-4 series clinching win over the Hoyas.
For the season, Mayhue is hitting .320 with a team-high 10 home runs, while ranking second on the team in RBI (36), slugging percentage (.670) and fourth in walks (18).
Schultz, meanwhile, claimed BIG EAST Honor Roll recognition after another dominant week, hitting .500 across three wins with a team-high seven hits, including a home run, four RBI and two runs scored.
The Nebraska native opened the week with a career-high tying three hits, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the Jays' 9-0 win over Drake. She then collected two hits and an RBI in both games of Friday's doubleheader against Georgetown, delivering the game-winning walk-off single in game one.
Mayhue, Schultz and the rest of the Creighton softball team will look to continue their winning ways this weekend then they travel to Queens, N.Y. to battle St. John's. The series between the Bluejays and Red Storm is set to begin on Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
