This Weekend
Creighton (23-21, 11-4 BE) begins the final stretch of the regular season on the road as the Bluejays head to Queens for pivotal three-game series at St. John's (26-16, 6-9 BE).
   The action is set to begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 17 at Red Storm Field. The Bluejays and Johnnies will then continue their three-game set on Saturday at 12 p.m., before concluding the series on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. CT. Â

Bluejays not Blue Jays
Creighton's mascot is the Bluejays or Bluejay, one word. Conversely the MLB Toronto team is the Blue Jays.
Scouting Creighton (20-20, 9-3 BE)
Creighton is 23-21 this season and 11-4 in BIG EAST play after claiming series wins over Seton Hall, Villanova, Butler and Georgetown thus far.Â
 The Bluejays have won 17 of their last 24 contests and look to stay hot and solidify themselves atop the BIG EAST standings this weekend.
   Owning one of the most potent offenses in the BIG EAST, Creighton has seven different Bluejays hitting better than .320. Sophomore Tara Vandewater paces the Bluejay squad and ranks 10th in the BIG EAST with a .373 batting average and 43 RBI on 47 hits, including eight doubles, four triples and seven home runs.Â
   Senior Lily West has continued her hot hitting, boasting a .353 batting average on a team-best 49 hits, including nine doubles, three home runs, 19 walks, 28 RBI and 27 runs scored, while freshman Zoey Greenwood leads the BIG EAST with 12 doubles and 22 stolen bases while hitting at a .326 clip.Â
   Senior Erika Perez, meanwhile, has stepped into more of a leadership role this season and is showcasing her power, hitting .333 with 10 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 20 walks and 30 RBI. Perez and veteran returners, Avery Barnard (.329 BA, 10 2B, 33 R, 24 RBI), Kaelan Schultz (.336 BA, 26 BB, 8 2B, 5 HR) and Ella Dalton (.267 BA, 31 Hits, 8 2B) have been relied on to lead this talented group.Â
   Freshman Audrey Gilman and junior Brooklyn Patchen have been relied on to lead the Bluejays pitching staff this season. Gilman paces the Jays with a 4.52 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 130.0 innings of work, while Patchen owns a 4.64 ERA and 59 punchouts in 69.1 innings pitched.
   As a team, Creighton leads the BIG EAST batting average (.315), doubles (71), triples (14), RBI (257), runs (281), and stolen bases (107), while the pitching staff owns a 5.00 ERA with 163 strikeouts in 285.1 innings of work.
   Head coach Krista Wood is in her fourth season with the Bluejays and holds a 619-417 career record, including a 111-99 mark at Creighton.Â
Scouting St. John's (27-16, 6-9 BIG EAST)
St. John's enters the weekend with a 27-16 overall record and currently sits sixth in the BIG EAST with a 6-9 mark in league play.Â
   The Johnnies took down Manhattan 9-2 on Wednesday but are coming off being swept by Providence last weekend.Â
   St. John's has thrived in the circle this season, owning a BIG EAST-best 3.28 ERA, allowing only 135 earned runs in 288.0 innings pitched. The Red Storm are tied for seventh in the country in strikeouts with 313, while ranking 10th nationally with 7.80 strikeouts per seven innings.
   Senior Ana Serafinko ranks second in the NCAA this season individually with 214 strikeouts, while leading the BIG EAST in victories (14), innings pitched (150.1) and complete games (17). Fellow senior Loreley Francia ranks fourth in the league with a 3.44 ERA with 13 wins and 99 strikeouts in 126.1 innings of work this spring.
    Offensive, the Johnnies are hitting .303 with 36 doubles, 12 home runs and 192 RBI, while scoring 5.1 runs per game.Â
   St. John's is led by senior Jess Bianco, who paces the BIG EAST with 58 hits on a .379 batting average, while London Slade has collected 51 hits and established herself as one of the most difficult players to strikeout in country hitting at a .349 clip.Â
   In addition, Serafinko has been a solid two-way player, hitting .350 with a team-high seven doubles and 22 runs batted in.Â
   St. John's was picked to win the league in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll as head coach Michelle DePolo is in her third year at the helm of the Johnnies.
Series History Against Red Storm
Creighton and St. John's have met 34 times previously, with 32 meetings happening since the Bluejays joined the BIG EAST in 2014.Â
   St. John's holds an 21-13 edge in the all-time series, after splitting four games last season. The Red Storm took two-of-three from the Bluejays in Omaha last year, before upending the Johnnies, 5-3, in the Second Round of the BIG EAST Tournament.
   The Bluejays and Red Storm have alternated wins in each of the last seven contests, including taking two of three from the Johnnies in Queens in 2024. Overall, Creighton is 4-7 in games played in Queens.
   Head coach Krista Wood is 7-5 all-time against St. John's as a head coach.Â

Mayhue Named BE Freshman of the Week
Freshman Keegan Mayhue was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second time this season on April 13.Â
   The Elm Mott, Texas product hit an impressive .545 (6-of-11) while contributing a double, two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored and a monster 1.182 slugging percentage as Creighton defeated Drake and took 2-of-3 from Georgetown last week.
   Mayhue recorded at least one hit in all four games, including a career-high tying three hits in the series finale against Georgetown on Saturday.Â
   The freshman standout opened the week in style, blasting a solo home run to right in the Jays' 9-0 win over Drake on Wednesday, before record one hit in both games of Friday's doubleheader with Georgetown. Mayhue then closed out the week in a big way, going 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored while launching her second grand slam home run of the season to guide the Bluejays to an 8-4 series clinching win over the Hoyas.Â
   For the season, Mayhue is hitting .320 with a team-high 10 home runs, while ranking second on the team in RBI (36), slugging percentage (.670) and fourth in walks (18).
League Leaders
Not only is Creighton one of the top teams in the BIG EAST standings, but the Bluejays are also dominating many of the team and individual statistical categories as well.Â
   Individually, Erika Perez and Tara Vandewater lead the BIG EAST with four triples apiece, while Zoey Greenwood owns a BIG EAST best 22 stolen bases and is tied for the league lead in doubles with 12. Ashten Pierson is also tops in sacrifice bunts with 12.Â
   As a team, Creighton is first in batting average (.315), runs (281), doubles (71), triples (14), RBI (257) and stolen bases (107), while ranking second in hits (366) and slugging percentage (.495).Â
West Elevates Up The Chart
Lily West, one of the most prolific hitters in program history, continues to climb the Bluejay record boards as she sits third all-time in school history with 231 career hits.Â
   West became just the 11th Bluejay in program history to surpass 200 career hits and the first to do so since Cayla Nielsen in 2024, when she passed the 200-hit milestone on March 6th at Seton Hall.
   West's 231 career hits are the third-most in program history and 14 hits shy of tying Bluejay Hall of Famer Christy Lunceford as the all-time hits leader in Creighton history.
   West entered her senior season with 182 career hits, the most by a Bluejay in their first three seasons in program history.Â
   The Choctaw, Okla. native has played in 210 career games and can join Lunceford with her next hit as the only Bluejays ever to record more than 50 hits in four straight seasons.

In the home stretch of her senior season, Lily West continues her climb up the Bluejay ranks in career batting average, runs scored and runs batted in.
   West currently ranks tied for sixth on Creighton's all-time career batting average list with a .337 career batting average, while owning 231 career hits.Â
   In addition, West moved sits in a tie for eighth on Creighton's career doubles list after tying a career high with two doubles in the Bluejays' 8-4 win over Georgetown last Saturday.Â
   West also ranks seventh all-time with 120 career RBI and seventh with 124 career runs scored.

Lily's Keeping it 100
Lily West is looking to rewrite the record book in 2026 as the senior slugger closes in on multiple career milestones.Â
   With a leadoff home run against Drake on Feb. 14, West became the 20th Bluejay in program history to record 100 career runs scored.Â
   In addition, the senior slugger became the 13th Bluejay in program history to record 100 career RBI and is now just two RBI away from surpassing Bailey Dawson and Stacey Rybar for fifth on Creighton's all-time career RBI list.Â

West Staying Durable
Senior catcher Lily West has been a fixture in the Bluejays starting lineup since stepping foot on campus in 2023 and is reaching uncharted territory as she has started in all 210 games of her Bluejay career.Â
   Her 210 consecutive starts are the most consecutive starts by a Bluejay since Jessica Wakasugi started 216 straight games from 2006-09.Â
   With her start against Seattle on March 26, West became just fourth Bluejay since 1999 to start 200 consecutive games, joining Heidi Geier (2001-04, 210 games), Lauren Cisneros (2003-06, 219 games) and Wakasugi (2006-09, 216 games). In addition, West became just the 15th Bluejay overall to start 200 career games since 1999.
On the Double
Forty-four games into the season, Creighton has hit a total of 71 doubles. That figure currently leads the BIG EAST and is tied for the sixth-most in a single season in program history.Â
   In head coach Krista Wood's four seasons on the Hilltop, Creighton has recorded 294 doubles, including 77, the second-most in a single season, in both 2023 and 2024. In addition, the Bluejays hit 69 doubles, the eighth-most in a single season last year.Â

Catch Them If You Can
Creighton has soared around the base paths all season long, shattering the school record with 107 stolen bases in the first 44 games this season. Â
   The Bluejays broke the program record on April 8 when the Jays stole six bags in a 9-0 win at Drake.
   CU's 107 stolen bags surpassed the previous school record of 89 stolen bases in 1991 and currently leads the BIG EAST and are the third-most in Division I this season.
   Creighton is averaging 2.43 stolen bases per game, a small mark as the Jays have recorded five or more stolen bases nine different times, including a season-high seven stolen bags against Northern Colorado on Feb. 27.
   CU's seven stolen bases were two shy of the school record and tied for the second-most in a single game in program history.Â

Freshman Zoey Greenwood has been fast and furious on the base paths, pacing the Bluejays and the BIG EAST with 22 stolen bases on 24 stolen base attempts this season.Â
   The New Boston, Texas native's 22 stolen bases are one shy of tying Shelly Esser for sixth on Creighton's single season stolen base list and just three shy of tying Heidi Geier for third-most in a single season in program history.
   In addition, Greenwood's 22 stolen bases are the second-most by all freshman in the NCAA this season, trailing only the 32 stolen bags by College of Charleston's Bronwyn Conroy.

Senior Erika Perez has walked 20 times during the Bluejays first 44 games this season, including six time during the Jays' three-game sweep of Villanova.
   The Madera, Calif. native drew a career-high tying three walks in the Jays' 11-3 win over the Wildcats on March 21 and two more in the series finale on March 22.Â

Vandewater Rakes
Sophomore Tara Vandewater has been racked up the RBI all season long, pacing the Bluejays and ranking fourth in the BIG EAST with 42 runs batted in this year.Â
   The Winterset, Iowa native has recorded a team-best 12 multi-RBI games, including six such games with three or more RBI this season.Â
   Her 42 runs batted in currently ranks tied for the ninth-most RBI in a single season and is now just two RBI shy of moving sixth on CU's singles season RBI list.Â

Perez's Daily Double
In the Bluejays' 11-8 win over Seattle last Friday, senior Erika Perez shined in a big moment, doing something only one other Bluejay has been able to do in the past 49 years.Â
   The Madera, Calif. native went 3-for-4 from the play with a school-record tying three doubles, joining Alyssa Gappa as the only Bluejays in program history to record three doubles in a single game.Â

Can't Keep Her Off the Bases
Senior Lily West reached base safely in 20 straight games before having her streak snapped on March 25 after going 0-for-3 at Omaha. The 20-game on-base streak was longest on-base streak of West's career and Creighton's second longest streak of the season.
   During West's 20-game on-base streak, she hit .460 (29-of-63) with five doubles, two homers, 20 RBI and 17 runs scored. West owned at least one hit in 14 of the 20 contests, including multiple hits in 10 of those games.Â
   Erika Perez also reached base safely in 22 straight games dating back to last season, before having her streak snapped going 0-for-2 against Drake on Feb. 14.
   The Madera, Calif. native came into her senior season with a lot of confidence after finishing last year on a 15-game on-base streak.
   Perez's 22-game on-base streak was the third longest streak by a Bluejay since 2010 and longest since Amy Baker reached base safely in 37 consecutive contests in 2013.
   During her 22-game on-base streak, Perez hit .373 with 19 hits, four doubles, and a team-high 19 walks to go with nine runs scored.

Free Softball
Creighton played its first extra-inning games of the season this past weekend at Butler, where they earned an 8-5 8-inning win in game one before falling in game-two in 8-innings on Thursday.
   Freshman Keegan Mayhue and senior Erika Perez lifted the Bluejays to the series opening victory, launching back-to-back home run in the top of the eighth inning.
   Creighton, overall, is 97-99-2 all-time in extra-inning games, including a 21-17 mark since joining the league in 2014.
   Amongst the Bluejays extra-inning games is Creighton historic NCAA record 31-inning contest against Utah on May 11, 1991, as well as the third longest game in NCAA history in the 25-inning affair against Utah just 21-minutes later on May 12, 1991.
Small-Ball Bluejays
Creighton has prided itself as building triple-threat players at the plate, perfecting the ability to lay down a bunt at any given time.Â
   This season, Creighton is hitting .559 (19-of-34) with 24 sacrifices in bunting opportunities. Junior Ashten Pierson is 11-of-20 (.550 BA) with a team-high and BIG EAST-best 12 sacrifice bunts, while freshman Zoey Greenwood has converted 4-of-5 bunts and Avery Barnard has executed six sacrifices this spring.Â
   Last season, the Bluejays converted 26 sacrifice bunts, led by Pierson with 11.Â
Close Call
Through 44 games this season, Creighton has already played 15 games decided by two or less runs, including nine one-run contests.Â
   Despite keeping it close, the Bluejays are 7-8 in close games this season, which including a 5-4 mark in one-run games. Â
   Last season, Creighton played 23 games decided by two or less runs, posting an 11-12 overall record, while recording an 7-10 record in one-run contests.
CU Launching Pad
Creighton has also produced some big hitters throughout its powerful lineup over the years and that trend has continued this season.Â
   CU has blasted a total of 37 home runs this season, including 15 blasts within the friendly confines of the Creighton Softball Stadium.
   Among the 15 home runs hit inside the Creighton Softball Stadium by Creighton, are two walk-off home runs, a pinch-hit grand slam, a leadoff homer and five go-ahead blasts. Â
   Since joining the BIG EAST in 2014, the most home runs a Creighton team has hit during a single season at home is 30 (2025).Â
   Tara Vandewater, Keegan Mayhue leads the way with five home runs at home this season, while Erika Perez follows closely behind with three home runs respectfully.

Creighton has scored 281 runs, averaging 6.39 runs per game this season, a number that surges to 131 runs and 8.73 runs per game in BIG EAST contests.Â
   The Bluejays' 131 runs scored in BIG EAST play are the most of any team in the league thus far, 28 more than the next closest opponent.
   Overall, the 131 runs scored in BIG EAST play this season are the fourth-most in a single conference season in program history.Â
   Last year, Creighton scored a program-record 179 runs in league play, averaging a program-best 7.45 runs per contest. The Bluejays are currently on pace to shatter that record and become the first team to average more than 8.0 runs per game in league play in school history.Â

Friday Fever
Despite only owning a 23-21 record this season, Creighton has played some of its best softball of the year on Friday's.
   The Bluejays are 11-4 this season on Friday, posting wins over Central Arkansas, Sam Houston, South Dakota, UT Arlington, Northern Colorado, Seton Hall, Providence, Villanova, Seattle, Butler and Georgetown.Â
   In 15 Friday games this year, CU is hitting .353 with 28 doubles, eight triples and 13 home runs, while outscoring its opponents 124-83.Â
   On the flip side, Creighton is just 12-17 during its non-Friday contests. In those 29 contests, Creighton is hitting just .291 with 43 doubles and 24 home runs, while outscoring its opponents 157-155.Â
Swiper No Swiping
Senior Lily West has been mowing down the opposition on the base paths early on this season.
   Forty games into her senior year, West has thrown out 11 would-be base-stealers this season, including two against UT Arlington on Feb. 22.Â
   By comparison, West only threw out nine would-be base-stealers last season and just 11 in her first two seasons with the Bluejays in 2023-24.Â
   The Choctaw, Okla. native is currently ranked tied for 20th in Division I for runners caught stealing.Â
Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Junior Ashten Pierson has been hit by a pitch five times this season, pushing her total to 22 career hit-by-pitches.
   Pierson's 22 career hit-by-pitches are the seventh-most all-time in a career at Creighton. She is now two hit by pitches shy of tying Alyssa Gappa for sixth on Creighton's top 10 career hit by pitch record list.Â
   Last season, Pierson was hit by a pitch 12 times, a total that ranks tied with Jen Daro for second-most in a single season in program history.Â

   Over the last 26 seasons, Creighton is 421-63 when scoring five or more runs. In the same time span, Creighton is 248-447-3 when scoring four runs or fever.
   Creighton is also 205-45 when scoring five or more runs in a game since joining the BIG EAST in 2014, including a 21-5 record this season.Â
   During that same time frame the Bluejays are 122-5 when scoring eight or more runs, which included a perfect 14-0 record this year. Prior to Creighton's 22-18 loss to Connecticut on March 28, 2025, Creighton had won 29 consecutive games when scoring eight or more runs.

   In her fourth season with the Bluejays, Wood's currently owns a 54-43 record in the BIG EAST (includes BIG EAST Tournament) with at least three victories over every team in the league.Â
